Started by Len Miller and his son Arnold. Over time, the company changed from "L. Miller & Son Ltd." to "L. Miller & Co.", presumably when Arnold Miller left the company. He then started Arnold Book Company, taking at least some titles with him.
The line included original Australian material and reprints of US Archie, Fiction House and Standard comics. Indicia publishers listed in the comics include Action Comics Pty. Ltd. and Popular Publications Pty. Ltd. Furthermore, Leisure Productions is an early name for H. John Edward's publishing company.
1951 - 1979
In the 1950s Thorpe & Porter was a British publisher who competed with the likes of L. Miller and Son to reprint US titles for the UK market.
From 1959, Thorpe & Porter were the sole distributor of both US DC and US Marvel comics in the UK. Marvel comics were issued with the covers altered (in the USA) to show a UK price instead of US price; whilst the cover month was removed. DC comics were franked with a circular UK price stamp, after their arrival. A few Marvels were also price-stamped in similar fashion.
In the early 1960s, Thorpe & Porter either acquired or distributed a number of Arnold Book Company's titles.
