Where do fiche come from?
« on: June 02, 2012, 01:07:36 PM »
I understand the comics on the site labeled paper are from scanned paper copies and the ones marked fiche are from microfilm but where do these microfilms come from and when/by whom were they placed on film??
I am guessing they are filmed copies of old print issues from various libraries etc?
What's the story on them?

There was a company back in the day called Microcolor or something like that. They marketed a tremendous amount of GA material on fiche, and also sold a microfiche reader for viewing. I can't recall how much the stuff sold for, but I received a bunch of the fiche and a reader from the company as a "demo" type thing through my job.  It was a little clunky by today's standards, but there were not the options back then that we have now.  I probably still have a buch of these little devils laying around in a box somewhere.

I have a 4 page catalog from Micro Color from the 1990s with price listings of their microfiche reader ($225), reader accessories, & listings of available GA microfiche scans  ($32 per card of 5 comics). The catalog has a full-color cover showing the reader & cards. If anyone's interested I could send it here, but need directions on how to do that.

Hopefully it can be posted here and most certainly we would be happy to post the scans on CB+

I expect the catalogue is copyrighted.
It's best to just share it at CB+

Actually Larry, you'll need to go to the CB+ site itself here -
http://comicbookplus.com/
(CB+ used to be called GoldenAgeComics.uk.  If you were a member there your old login will still work.)

Along the top of the screen in the top left you'll see:
Welcome: Guest User | Log in | Register | Privacy | About | Help

If you aren't already a member you will need to Register with the site and then you'll see UPLOAD is a new option along the top of the site.

After that follow the instructions for uploading a zip file.  They want jpgs inside of a zip file.

Good luck,
-Yoc

Thanks Yoc,

Didn't know that GAC died & was reincarnated as ComicBookPlus. Nice to see I'm still registered there. I Uploaded the Micro-Color file to their 'Fanzine & More' category.

And it is now available thanks Larry. A sale catalog without any special graphics should not be copyright problem

Fiche come from the ocean of course, unless they happen to be fresh-water fiche, then they come from rivers & lakes.

By the way in case anyone wants to search on line or anything, the company name was Microcolour (i.e., the British spelling).
