Synopsis: Bess and her family live in the slums. She attracts the attention of big shot Tony, to the consternation of local cop Joe, who has a crush on Bess himself. Tony uses Bess’s little brother Sammy as a lookout for a robbery, and Sammy is shot. Tony refuses to let him be taken to a hospital. Bess goes to Joe for help and Tony is arrested. Bess realizes Joe is “twice the man” that Tony is.

Gilbert wants to construct veteran’s housing instead of offices, but Laura sees this as a threat to her economic security and convinces him to give up the idea. Some time later, Gilbert says he’s lost his money and they move to a small apartment. Laura confesses she married him for money and he leaves her. Laura moves in with Jeannie and her husband and changes her attitude. Gilbert returns and they reconcile.

Ray says the readers of Love Diary might be able to solve her problem.

However, Ross goes home at the end of the summer and Gale discovers Nancy and Barry have fallen in love.

Synopsis: Priscilla comes from an old family in the town of Braxton and opposes the efforts of newcomer Paul to build a tourist motel there. She encourages the townspeople to boycott his project but Paul finds other workers and supplies. Paul is attracted to Priscilla and she thinks she can convince him to change his plans, but he refuses. Priscilla gets his credit cut off, then learns Paul is a wounded veteran who loves the town as well as she does. She gets everyone to help build the motel and Paul and Priscilla admit their love for each other.
