However, she accidentally stumbles into a trap set by Camilla for hyenas. Jane is brought to her father as dead and he blames Camilla. Camilla escapes and goes to the mine to prove the villainy of the overseers. Their blasts have agitated a colony of vampire bats who kill the overseers. Camilla returns to the mine owner's camp and discovers that Jane was not killed, only wounded.
