Note that the missing child in the kidnapping scam story is a boy - as were most of the children depicted in the comics of the day.  Mugsy, the sidekick of the Clock, and Kitty, who was Cat-Man's assistant, are notable exceptions to this "rule."

One thing that troubles me about this comic is that the writers are suggesting that everybody who practises deception is evil.  Not so: the family of the singer Russ Columbo conspired to prevent his mother from learning that he was dead, because she was herself ill and they were afraid the shock of learning of his death would kill her.  She lived for ten years after his death believing that Russ was still alive.
