Virginia Commonwealth University's (VCU) Comic Collection

I originally posted this over at CB+ back in Sept 2015, but I know not everyone posts there, so here it is again.

This could be helpful  for filling gaps.

point to remember: the online VCU Catalog is not complete, the Comic Arts Collection Curator at VCU still has thousands of comics to index and more are coming in to their collection.

From the CB+ posting:

So apparently VCU (in Richmond, VA) has a very impressive cache of comics.

I got some indexing data from there when a I started this Suzie project I have been on.  I had a couple of email chats with Cindy Jackson, the Curator, and she's very nice and appreciates our little site here. They do allow folks to come and scan books from their collection. So, if you are near there, you may want to consider
dropping by. I wish I lived close enough.

Cindy said they literally have thousands of books waiting to be indexed, let alone scanned. This is pretty much her life's work.

I'm going to see what may be available at schools near me.

Ohio State has a number of comics. The staff will scan them for you for a fee. (or that was what it was at one time, not sure if it still is)

The only other university in Ohio that has comics if I recall correctly is Bowling Green

And do bear in mind, most universities are super paranoid about scanning comics

Yes, there are a few comic collections at the universities in ohio and one in michigan if I remember correctly, like movielover says.

I had identified a few dell books that were (at that time) needed from those places. I'd need to look again.

I'd like to know if anyone is near the Carnegie Museum/Library in Pittsburg?  There's one book  that I would love to see scanned from there - Classics Illustrated Educational Series special - on Dale Carnegie (well, duh!).

I'm an hour and half away from Richmond.  If I'm motivated enough I could see myself taking a trip there if it was worth the time and effort.

You're thinking of Michigan State, but you have to be student or faculty to access it. Professors from others institutions might also be able to, I have no clue. I also know that Stanford has a collection.

I have been to Michigan State and Bowling Green. I'm not sure if Randy Scott made an exception for us at MSU, but we were allowed full access there.  At BGSU I just walked in and they gave me access.

I am currently not too far from Virginia Commonwealth.  If I make a trip up there, I'll take requests.
