A Very Thoughtful piece on a Very NON_Public Domain Subject

A very insightful piece just ran in THE VERGE after Marvel's latest massive marketing implosion; I personally could not care any less about these comics anymore, but Tim Carmody manages to raise the bar in a way that brings together that frothing-at-the-mouth hysteria some of us recall when we read those Joe Sinnott-inking-Kirby-on-the-Fantastic Four bygone days and the cynical market driven effluvia they're putting out today. A interesting read from a interesting viewpoint.

From my own view, it seems as if the entire Marvel Universe has been a constant rehashing and re-using over and over, the same stories, concepts, and characters created by Kirby and Lee between 1961 and 1968.

The last years at Marvel, Kirby, as everybody knows, kept all his new ideas to himself and did not introduce any new concepts or characters.
Lee's contribution at this same time was less than spectacular. By '72 he was promoted to publisher and was no longer involved in creating new characters or continuing on those he had a hand in creating.

I have to agree Narf.
One of the things I like about the AstroCity series is how it avoids the problem.  It has a SA feel to the stories where a variety of character appear and move on.  One can't get bored with repetition in this series and there's none of the grim anti-hero 90s feel.
