Comics on a external hard drive question?
« on: April 13, 2015, 11:34:37 PM »
What would be the chances of getting all comics - by company/title - loaded on an portable external hard drive (size of deck of cards) available for purchase?

It may be a way for the community to give back - say $50 for a 1 terabyte drive - and add on another $150 effort & shipping.

Would make a nice gift - as additional comics are added to the site the buyer could add where needed.  It could include some PDF lists of content etc...

Hi Hunter,
Something to think about.

What I can suggest for those wanting a massive number of scans is to wait for May and take part in our next donation drive.
For every $1 donated you can download several gigs of data via FTP.
Details are still being discussed.  Stay tuned for the announcement later this month.

I would guess (I have no access to the sites data) that 90% of the members of the site download for free and never donate - That is just human nature.  This would temp many to buy the hard drive to save themselves the work.  The cost of it may be $400 all said and done - many would think it was a great deal.  made on a certain date - then you just add comics yourself after the date -(or do yearly hard drives!!)

Lower cost options might be disks done by company or type of comic.
Example:
All horror comics
all crime comics
all western
all love
all misc.

Hi HG,
For our first couple years we had occasional requests to sell scans on DVD but only a handful.
The problem is the DCM files are hosted on a remote server.
Nobody on staff, AFAIK, has ALL of them saved to their personal HD.  I certainly don't.
So the work involved in creating such a drive for sale would be high.  More than anyone on staff has wanted to take on.
The donations for FTP access offer - queue what you want and only what you want, click go and walk away is the best we can offer for the moment.

Thanks for your suggestions.  We've never said anything was written in stone and we might consider this down the road.
