Fawcett's Funny Animals 31 (unedited scan)
« on: November 24, 2014, 02:58:01 AM »
Managed to grab this a few months ago at a convention. I haven't finished editing my scan yet though, because I've run into a problem...
My copy seems to have been printed on some screwy crooked paper or something, because when I straighten the images so that the spine is vertical, the other edges of the pages are at weird angles. Here are my results so far: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/2pha5dqkoks22/funny_animals_31
Basically, I'm not sure if I should crop it or fill in the spots where... well, there isn't any paper. Any advice?

Hi Tymime,
These look fine to me as-is.  A tiny bit of cropping is all I would do.
I personally straighten to the artwork when pages are not printed properly and crop the boarders just little bit.

I agree with Yoc, by the way I've run into much worst on printing, how about the panel printing on the edge of the paper at an angle. Fox books had this problem, so lots of editing was needed for those, next would be Charlton with very poor printing, which they printed themselves.

Ty your off to a great start with your scanning, hang in there, you'll do fine.

So you guys recommend cropping then? I might try some sort of hybrid of the two- I'm pretty handy with the context-aware fill...

I would only crop as much as needed but the clone tool could easily replace any missing boarder as well.
Good luck!

Just finished and uploaded this. I was hoping it would be the first scan of this issue- I mean, it technically was two years ago (has it been that long??).
What I did was straighten it to the panel borders, cropped a little, and then filled in the blank parts so that the paper looked normal. (I'm sure this was why I got it so cheap- it was only $20.)

Thanks very much tymime!
I wont add the file right now as I noticed a couple problems you might want to correct.

The first nine jpgs are lacking a leading zero.  To work properly on DCM and some comic reader apps you must have two digits in each file name.
ie 01, 02, 03, etc.
Your file also was missing a page when I looked close.  Checking against the existing freddyfly scan I see you missed the '3 Big Values In One' wallet ad.
I've corrected the file names and pulled the missing ad to complete the book.  I will upload the new version tomorrow unless you'd like to make your own corrections and insert the missing advertisement.

Thanks again for your work on this,
-Yoc

I have no idea how I missed that page. Oh well- I've got it scanned now.
I haven't had a problem with numbers in filenames for years- I guess I must've gotten used to it. Must be a Mac thing.

I'm having trouble making a new .cbr though. The .rar compressor I used decided to stop working and I haven't found a new one yet...

If you can find a ZIP compressor that would be better Tymine.
I've uploaded my fixed version of the file for you.

Thanks again for your scan!

Ugh. I just prefer .cbr is all.
My search came up empty, so I've uploaded a .cbz instead. If you could replace what you uploaded with that...

Thanks Tymine,
It's not a rule but in general DCM would prefer people use zip or cbz files.
Thanks for the fixed version of your scan.  I've removed the one I made.
