Pat the Brat
« on: March 12, 2014, 05:00:03 AM »
Hi, I have downloaded the Pat the Brat comics from here and started translating them to another language to publish them (free of charge) on my web site. However, now I see they were all moved to Suspect folder. Can anyone tell me reason? Are they no longer in public domain? Thanks!

They were found to not be in the public domain on closer examination.
You might try Comic Book Plus and see if they still have them online.

Good luck but be aware they are not PD after all.

Thanks for the answers. So I guess it is now certain that Pat the Brat is not PD. No chance of discovering it is PD after all, right?

That's just my bad luck. Since I already translated quite a lot, here is a question. What are the chances that the next comics I choose to translate will also be found non-PD later? Please, do not take this as a complaint, I really appreciate your work here on DCM. I just want to make sure this bad luck will not happen to me again :)

BTW, do you think it's worth trying to get some sort of license on publishing the translated Pat the Brat free of charge on my site? Will any agent even bother to reply to such request from a little guy?

You could try them Pete.
Who knows, they might allow it.

Again, sorry for this - I strongly suggest you use the copyright.gov site mentioned in the FAQ section before trying another character or use something from before 1923.

Good luck,
-Yoc

Pete it might not hurt to contact Archie. They may happy to get the translations from you and even make them available on their site. I think you should give it a try.
