Goldenagemicros.com by "Copper"
« on: October 08, 2013, 05:03:29 PM »
Hi All,

For a long time I was a fan of site called Goldenagemicros.com which had a large number of Golden Age Micro Heroes; it was one of the inspirations for my figurine project. I recently discovered that the domain has expired and the site is now offline. :-[ I did find a snapshot of it on the Internet Archive Way Back Machine:

http://web.archive.org/web/20120118153900/http://goldenagemicros.com/

Unfortunately most of the image links are broken. The artwork was done by a person named "Copper" - does anyone know more about him? (I assume it was probably a guy). Did he frequent DCM at all? It's a shame the site is down and no longer available to the general public.

Best Regards,

Jared

Yes I know him. He was a friend of my website partner and dear friend of mine Darrine Wiltshire.

Thanks for the working link! It's one of my favorite micro heroes sites. Is Copper still around or did he pass away? I was a bit confused by mr_goldenage's response.

I always liked this micro-hero site:  Golden Age Hero Directory.

I think I have that one bookmarked! Did a bit of browsing and stumbled across Madam Satan:

Kind of like a purple Fantomah! The Golden Age produced so many cool looking characters which have slipped into obscurity; looking forward to Jess Nevins's forthcoming encyclopedia on the subject.

Can you elaborate on that, I haven't heard about it.

He did a Kickstarter in May 2012:

I'm not sure, but it looks like it's done! At least the website version is up:

http://jessnevins.com/encyclopedia/characterlist.html

I don't think the printed version is finished though; I missed out on the original Kickstarter and hope I can eventually snag a copy.

Oh, those are: Star-Storm, Power Man, Raven, Optima, UltraMan, some guy whose name escapes me (probably Captain Wonder or something), and Dr. Quantum.

They're all just modern age ones I made up.

Copperage was an online friend of mine pre-GAC days back when Irrational Games produced the wonderfully fun "Freedom Force" game and a few years later it's sequel "Freedom Force vs the 3rd Reich"
Copper specialized in doing goldenage themed 'skins' for the game.

My own 'Capt. Monkey' avatar is a built on a Freedom Force model

Cooper worked for years after on his Micros but I haven't been in touch in a long long time.

Thanks for the clarification Yoc - sounds like he's still alive and kicking. I sure like his work and I'm glad his site lives on under a new banner.

He was/is very prolific and had an eye for the tiny variations that would crop up from issue to issue or even page to page for a character.
And he had a very funny sense of humour as well.  He, myself and Mr Aratek on the old FF forums had many, many fun exchanges while cheering Copper on to do this or that GA hero.

Yes he was very inventive, and he was always supportive of other sites like Bill Nolans Pure Entertainment and I am also sure he probably bought all of Bills CD's too. I know he bought all of ours from Good Guys & Gals site back in the day, all 8 volumes, plus the first edition of the site itself, and he was a big supporter of our site as well. As I stated above I know he and Darrin Wiltshire worked on Micros (don't ask my opinion of Micro's) of his own "creations" and GA ones as well. If Darrin is still in contact I'll ask him in our next chat session.
