HELP!!! My External HD Died!

Hi e1. I need some help/advice bad. I moved on June 9th and I cant say for sure who did it but I asked for my lap and externals (that were in their travel bag) to be placed in my brothers truck along with a few other fragile items. When I sorted out a bit I noticed that the lap-bag had been put in the truck -- under 2 heavy bins containing all my other computer stuff (wires, dvds, etc). When I plugged it in it wouldn't do a thing. I called Seagate but they wanted $399.00 just to start looking for the info and then no guarantee they could find any thing but if they did recovery would start at $1200.00 more and up!  So I took it to my tech guy At TigerDirect (where I bought them) and he tried to find any info but said that the inside disc drive was banged around and he couldn't recover anything. I cant put blame on the movers as I didn't see them do it and there were friends helping too. BUT-- 950G+!!! All my comics and books. 05/2007 to now...kaput!

So I start again (a little smarter though..lol). If any one knows where I could find books in larger amts or packages (or must I start over downloading one at a time) please get in touch with me (IMNetasha@hotmail.com). Heck I would even buy any discs off people if they wanted to sell+ship them to me. I am open to suggestions. I need my comic fix!! UGGGG!! Tks vm & Cheers Net

Ouch!  That's terrible luck Netasha.
It may be slow going but at least you know there is no limit on how many books or how fast you down load them from DCM.  That should cover all your PD scan needs at least... eventually.

Good luck with the project - I hope someone on the site can perhaps help you out better.

Tks any way Yoc. I guess its the long way and its good that I have 2 other blank externals but then I can really down all I want (almost every on the site) and not miss any of the collections...but oh my aching mouse finger..LOL . Cheers Net

I have two options for you.
1) you connect to DC++ ( if you don;t know what that is go here http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/  )

2) tell me what you need, bear in mind there's  5-5TB of comics, roughly, so sort out, again roughly, what would fit in a 1, or 2 TB HD and we can copy and post.
 I hasten to add this would be coming from a third party, but someone we trust implicitly.

Wouldn't it be easier for you to purchase a new external 1TB drive, mail it to one of the trusted members of DCM and just copy the files from my DCM dedicated HD to yours?

Hi guys.... Tks soo much for the info. I think I like that idea bminor and Yoc had about getting a couple of external and sending it on to one of the members (that I hope is approved by DCM Admin). I will have to wait though until Aug/Sept as along with all the moving expenses and my computer and external blow-out tech costs, it has tapped my resources a bit. I will just have to see if I can copy some of the post DCM books my best friends son has saved (Superman and Family, Archie and some odds and ends) and the new books on offer here. It may even be easier/cheaper to send $$ via PayPal (as I do with my donations) or something like that to a person and have them ship it as a gift to me. It may save the duty, exchange and shipping only one way costs (and the products are cheaper in the US than here in Canada..lol). If anyone has other ideas please email me or message me on here. Cheers and tks again for all the help and advice.
