New Comic Art featuring Heroes of the Past
« on: June 20, 2013, 07:07:53 PM »
I'm new here to the Digital Comics Museum, but I have to say that I am LOVING THIS SITE!!  I've always had a special place in my heart for the old, obscure heroes of the past, but I never knew there were so many until I discovered the DCM.  I get such a kick out of reading and learning about characters I never knew existed.  One of my favorite hobbies is commissioning comic art.  Recently, I've asked contemporary artists to draw some of these Golden, Silver, and Bronze Age characters, and I'd like to share some of their work with you.  First up is Speed Centaur by the super art team of Scott McDaniel (penciler) and Bob Almond (inker):

Okay, clearly that didn't work as there's no image shown. ::)  Could it be anymore obvious that I'm a newbie?  I'll try again as soon as I get this figured out.

DamonO!

Welcome aboard.

Sometimes the image just doesn't show, sometimes it does. You probably did it right. (I assume you're linking to a CAF image file?)

Hi DamonO,
We would LOVE to see the pics.  The safest bet might be uploading to an image hosting sight like Tumblr or ImageShack and then posting their link to hit here.
Otherwise, after hitting Additional options, attach, etc. there is a total file size limit of 1024 KB that if you went over should have came back with an error.

Roygbiv666 (the poster above me) has his own amazing Commissions topic here where he's gotten many works of GA characters done.  As has Rangerhouse how uses them as covers for his own archive collections.

Good to see my CAF compadre ROY here, and Yoc, thanks for the welcome.  Much appreciated!  I think what I'll do is post the link to the pictures in my CAF gallery.  Coincidentally, I just got a new one in from Darryl Banks.

Okay, here we go...first up is the Golden Age's only cross-dressing crime fighter.  Courtesy of the dynamic duo of Scott McDaniel (penciler) and Bob Almond (inker), I present to you the Madea of mystery men -- and women -- Madame Fatal!

Keeping with the theme of guys in skirts -- although this guy is actually wearing a toga -- more Scott McDaniel/Bob Almond goodness as they bring on the Bouncer!

Last, but not least, the final McDaniel/Almond entry, this time featuring the half-horse hero called Speed Centaur:

Hi D,
Wonderful choices there!  I half expected Red Rube, Black Dwarf or one of my own obscure favs - The Penguin from Canadian whites.  Roy has him in the latest Hembeck commission.
You've totally come to the right place for sharing your love of the obscure.

I checked out the other works you've got on the site - first thought was 'Geof Isherwood is AMAZING!'
Just curious what he charges for them.

Also enjoy the love you show for poor old Atlas/Seaboard.  :)

Yoc, thanks for the kind comments.  There are more on the way!  The artists I'm contacting seem to really enjoy drawing these (in some cases) nearly forgotten characters.

As an Atlas/Seaboard fan, you may be interested to know that I've got a commission in the works even as we speak which will have them squaring off against the Juggernaut.

Okay, here we go...first up is the Golden Age's only cross-dressing crime fighter.
The SECOND cross-dressing crime fighter.

Centaur Comics The Cat Man was dressing up as a woman months before Madame Fatal, appearing in Amazing Man Comics #5 & 8.
