Free Sherlock!

This is--by far--the best thing I've read all day:

http://free-sherlock.com/

Short version:  The Doyle estate bullied a publisher into ditching a book borrowing from the public domain features of the Holmes books.  The flaw in their reasoning?  Leslie S. Klinger happens to know her stuff and also happens to be a lawyer.

He's suing the Doyle estate, demanding that they release claims of copyright on the "characters," since the overwhelming majority of the works in which they appear are, in fact, public domain in the United States.

He'll probably fail, but as I said, best thing I've seen today.  Couldn't not share.

Awesome. I've often wondered what the hold-up on the Public Domain and Sherlock Holmes was. "Bullying" would probably be the correct term.
