This is just a little too broad for me to get a handle on, cw. Can I get a genre, an era, something to narrow it down a hair?

It's from the 1940s

Ha Ha - you'll never get this one (maybe)

(more hints to follow, remember I'm new at this)

Okay, the year is 1947 (in what is sometimes referred to as the Atomic Age)

Next hint will be the genre.

HA HA, cooperway, bet you thought you had me going 44 ways from Sunday, but I still named that book in THREE clues. Very interesting cover.

Well for those of you without a magic lamp to help, this was going to be the next hint (like the second hint didn't totally blow it):

Aww, don't look so shocked to find out it's a funny animal comic

Looks like you're up next, Jim.

I looked at Ha Ha when you put it in your clue. I thought it was too obvious and I didn't look properly. More fool me!

Okay, folks,
sorry to have been away, but I caught a bug on Nuit Blanche (or else it was the 45 year old Bourgogne) and I've been resting for some days now. Here's a "gimme". 1950s.

Jim,

I am not a Dr, but I think from your description you might have caught what over here is described as an "almighty hangover" :)

No idea on the first clue

That rates another "HA HA", Mark,
Would that it had been that simple. I HATE it when I'm sick here. There's all of PARIS out the window and I'm achy and weak. Today I'm well and I need to seek out another bottle of that 1967 Corton Bressandes, if it's still available. One bottle of red, one white among 5 adults isn't going to make anybody tipsy, let alone dole out a hangover.

Hint #2:

Only teasing! Hope you still feeling better

I now have a Hemingway like vision of you. In a Parisian garret probably with a pain (bread I mean) and cheese, standing writing at your desk. Before you head out with your last few centimes to sit outside your local bar with an absinthe (beret obligatory).

Clue #2 I think there maybe treasure involved

I knew you were teasing, Mark,
Keep looking for this one. It's almost "famous".

As for Paris, nothing at all like Hemingway (despite Mr. Kinstler's flattering portrait). We have a lovely apartment on the 1er etage of an 1895 building in the 17th arrondissement. Not a bit like a garret. Not posh, but very comfortable - Tiliban slept in the 2nd bedroom when he was here. We enjoy good food, la vie Parisenne, and I wasn't kidding about the 45-year-old wine - our great weakness (after the cuisine). So, yeah, think of me with the baguette, la fromage, la pate, and really, really, really good wine.

A not-so-helpful hint: there's water involved.
