Amberjack has arrived!
« on: May 17, 2012, 07:31:42 AM »
Hello there!
I'm a long-time comic fan. I also love looking into the history of comics, so I was thrilled to come across this site. Thanks for making it!

Since I'm a comic fan, I couldn't resist also writing a blog about comics, which you can read here if you are so interested.

One thing I'm always looking for are comics that kids today might enjoy since I also work on a kid-friendly blog for my workplace. Do you know of anything "cool" we could feature on it?

Well since all Golden Age comics were marketed toward kids I think it's a safe bet that you can find a few (thousand) here on the site.

Of course some have content that would be considered politically incorrect now-a-days (especially some of the WWII era titles) so you may want to review titles yourself before passing them on to kids so that you can explain to them about the use of stereotypes in less enlightened times, how things need to be understood within the historical context they were written, etc...

Three fun titles that I can recommend would be Animal Comics, Jingle Jangle Tales, and The Adventures of Peter Wheat, which can be enjoyed by kids of all ages.

Best

Joe

Those are all quite good! I just randomly sampled issues from all three and I'm impressed. I will definitely be posting some of them for the kids to read. Amazing this stuff never gets reprinted!

Anyone else got some ideas?

It depends on what age group you are trying to entertain AJ.
For the very young and young at heart Peter Wheat is one of the best and woefully forgotten by almost everyone.
It was done by the legendary Pogo creator Walt Kelly.
You can find more of Kelly in the Dell section - Animal Comics as mentioned (for the very first Pogo) and Fairy Tale Parade.

For those a little older I'd recommend The Dell Scribbly Collection which you can find here - http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/index.php?dlid=14168

For boys that like very nicely done western action - Frazetta's Dan Brand & Tipi Archive pt 1 and 2  - http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/index.php?dlid=14023,  http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/index.php?dlid=14024

Enjoy!
