How about an Alex Schomburg special collection?
« on: September 02, 2011, 07:11:40 AM »
How would you go about collecting all of Alex Schomburgs public domain work?
That would be a wonderful collection.
I imagine it would be just about nothing but covers. Did he do any interior work?
As a teenager in the 70's I remember picking up  Invaders Annual #1 and was I excited. It had a cover by Alex, and also one of the interior stories also!
The book was divided into chapters each covered by a golden age artist, Don Rico, Lee Elias and Frank Robbins.
A nice book to pick up!

You could go to the GCD and do a name search for Schomburg.   I imagine that would give you quite a few of his credits.   Jerry Bails' Whos Who might also give you some clues on where to look for anything that GCD hasn't logged yet.

You're right that there would be a lot of covers among the collection but I've also seen scattered stories that he did among the goodies here at DCM and GAC.

I remember that Invaders Annual too.  Very nice package that Roy Thomas managed to put together that year.

Best

GCD would be the place to start but remember, we couldn't host anything with his Timely work in it.  But other than that it'd be a great collection to do!

While a collection of Schomburg would definitely start with covers- and if somebody wanted too they could probably snag a LOT of the non-timely ones from Heritage even if we don't have the books- here's one with his interior work:

And here's a couple more:

I believe the one shot "Jon Juan" is completely by Schomburg. Offhand, I don't know if it is available, but it would be a place to start if it is. I'm sure Schomburg must have done other interior work as well, but I don't know if any of it is available. As already noted, GCD is probably the best source to look for information.

You clearly didn't follow my first link up above!  :P

There are only a few other stories listed as by Schomburg at the GCD, and most of those have question marks.  In addition to the Jon Juan, the stories in the Amazing Adventures I linked to are signed.
