Looking for "simplistic" horror comics...
« on: April 20, 2011, 06:04:30 AM »
In the past when it came to horror comics I've mostly read stuff from EC -- I'm curious what horror comics really had the more basic, traditional horror stuff, instead of stories of revenge with ironic endings like EC often gave us.

Simple plots with lots of skeletons, vampire/werewolves/haunted houses, graveyards with bats silhouetted against a full moon, couples getting lost in a storm and taking refuge in a creepy house, etc.  I'm sure they have to be out there.

Try some of the early issues of Adventures Into the Unknown under the American Comics Group (ACG) listing.

Also if you can get a copy of Alter Ego #97 there is an article in in by Lawrence Watt-Evans that gives a brief overview of the various pre-code comic publishers and the different types of horror comics that they published.

Doesn't that describe most of the Ace horror comics?
