Fredric Wertham, Censorship & the Timely Anti-Wertham Editorials
« on: February 10, 2011, 03:04:54 PM »
Hey Gang,
Noted Atlas-Timely art spotter and comics historian Dr Michael Vassallo (DocV) has made an excellent couple of posts to his Timely-Atlas-Comics blog on anti-comics hysteria of the mid-50s including some great examples of anti-comics editorials and articles from various sources.  This is Well Worth Reading!

Quote
Folks, I know it's Super Bowl Sunday, but I'll let you know that I've posted a
new Timely-Atlas-Comics blog post. It ended up running so long that it wouldn't
upload to Blogger. I had to break it into 2 posts that I uploaded in reverse
order so the first part will always load first (I hope!) and then run into part
2.

It's an overview of the censorship battle that rifled the comics industry
slanted towards Timely-Atlas (of course) and also weighed more prominently on
the late 1940's battle although I run right up to SOTI. It's very image heavy,
touches on almost everything and I've inserted my own feelings when I felt they
were warranted.

There is an extremely long "sources" and "bibliography" at the end. If anyone
spots anyone or anything I've inadvertently missed as a source that I used
demonstrably in the post, please alert me to it as I tried to be as
comprehensive as possible in crediting everyone who should be credited.

If anything looks screwy with the images, please holler!

Whew!
