Hopefully we'll get a complete run of this title at some point. Flagman and Rusty are two of my favorites from Captain Aero, along with Red Cross and Miss Victory.  :)

Wow! You've just made my Christmas, RH!  :D

This is a book that was at the top of my wish list for the site. I'm so glad that you managed to find a copy in such excellent condition and scanned it so beautifully. Thanks so much. All we need now is a complete Eagle Comics #01 and Eagle Comics #04 (with the first eight or nine pages that are missing).

Thanks Jim.

Did Rice also handle some of the artwork in Eagle Comics #4? (especially the fourth Eagle story, The Demon of the Quicksands) I know that Raye is given credit on "Defenders to the Rescue" and "The Monster of the Tropics," but I wasn't sure if he handled both the writing and art chores, or just the script.

Since the first Eagle story in #4 is incomplete, I'm also not sure if Raye did that one, although I assume you might have a better idea.

I'll check in a bit, kranky,
but I wanted to suggest that you check the Who's Who occasionally. There is no such person as Lester Raye, so any "credits" are misleading.

Eagle #4 is a JVJ book, so there should be an index card with the scan...

Thanks for clearing that up, Jim. I didn't know that Lester Raye was a pseudonym (or just a flat out fabrication). I also forgot about the index card with the Eagle Comics #4 scans, so that helped answer part of my question.

What's strange is that the artwork in Eagle Comics #2 -- along with the Eagle stories in Weird Comics #18 and #19 -- while somewhat similar, still changed a little bit in Eagle Comics #3 and #4. I assumed that perhaps it was a different artist. But I couldn't tell (hence my confusion about Lester Raye and thinking he was a real person).

Anyway, I'm off to visit Who's Who...

Eagle #2 is also Rice except for the "The Golden Knight". He was drawing all of this very fast and for various inkers. He did TONS of stuff for Fox. He is doing Eagle and Black Rider in Weird #18 and #19, too. TONS.

Also looks like he was the primary artist for the first volume of Green Mask (back when he was teamed with Domino). I'm pretty amazed by just how much artists like Rice were able to crank out in such a short amount of time. Somehow, I doubt the pencillers of today would be able to cope with that.
