Street and Smith Comics, an explanation anyone?
« on: October 01, 2020, 06:47:45 AM »
How is it that we do not have any Street and Smith Comics here on DCM?

According to the GRAND COMIC DATABASE:

Street and Smith
1855 - 1959

Country:United States
Indicia / Colophon Publishers: 2
Total Number of Series: 26
Total Number of Issues: 355
Show Covers by Month: using on-sale date or using publication date
Notes:
Street and Smith was one of the leading publishers of a wide range of magazines, dime novels, and sports yearbooks. Their pulp magazines included often-reprinted titles such as The Shadow, Doc Savage, Astounding Science Fiction and Unknown. They published comic books from 1940 to 1949, some of which were derived from their pulp titles. They were purchased by Conde Nast in 1959, which continued to use the Street and Smith imprint on its sports magazines.

They did all the following comics (data from Wikipedia):

Comic books
Air Ace (20 issues, 1944–48)
Army and Navy Comics (5 issues, 1940–42; became Supersnipe)
Bill Barnes Comics (1 issues, 1940; became Bill Barnes, America's Air Ace)
Bill Barnes, America's Air Ace (11 issues, 1941–43; became Air Ace)
Blackstone, Master Magician Comics (3 issues, 1946)
Devil Dog Comics (1 issue, 1942)
Doc Savage Comics (20 issues, 1940–43)
Ghost Breakers (2 issues, 1948)
Pioneer Picture-Stories (9 issues, 1941–43)
Red Dragon Comics (5 issues, 1943–44; 7 issues, 1947–49)
The Shadow Comics (101 issues, 1940–48)
Sport Comics (4 issues, 1940, became True Sports)
Super-Magic Comics (1 issues, became Super-Magician)
Super-Magician Comics (55 issues, 1941–43)
Supersnipe Comics (44 issues, 1942–49)
Top Secrets (10 issues, 1947–49)
Trail Blazers (4 issues, 1941–42, became Red Dragon)

So what gives?

Yours,
B.

They renewed their books and are zealous defenders of their copyrights.
They are unsafe for sharing on DCM.
