Somewhat racy (mildly so) compared to many MAD magazine knockoffs. I love these MAD imitations and would welcome DCM hosting as many as can be found and scanned. Thanks, tilliban. |

A thing of uncommon beauty and delight, many thanks for getting this posted for us. |

This was one of the better humor magazines around at the time. As a humor magazine collector with an extensive collection, I balk at using the term "Mad knock-off" or "imitation" as it implies that the humor magazine field was only big enough for one magazine and all others are imitations by default. It also demeans the work put into the other magazines. In fact, there were many other humor magazines that were as good or better than Mad during various decades as well as ones there were inferior. Mad was certainly an influence on almost all of them, but many magazines developed their own unique styles and personalities. Crazy Man Crazy/From Here to Insanity/This Magazine is Crazy was much racier than Mad for a period of time of its existence, and was also one of the best-written of the '50's humor mags. It got even better when the title was changed to "This Magazine is Crazy" and Gary Belkin became the head writer. Belkin was one of Sid Caesar's writers and went on to write for Mad later on. I agree with the sentiment that I'd love to see as many humor magazines and comics as possible on here, and I would thank the people for the hard work they do in postings magazines like this. Great stuff! |
