Issue: #[10]
Published: 1944, Price: 0.10 USD, Pages: 52, Editing: Victor Fox
Color: Color Dimensions: Standard Golden Age U. S. Paper Stock: Glossy Cover; Newsprint Interior Binding: Saddle-stitched Publishing Format:
Notes: Indicia: R. W. VOIGT Publisher Chicago Copyright 1944, by Fox Feature Syndicate, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Printed in U.S.A. This and Rocket Kelly (Fox, 1944 series) #[nn] are the only known cases of Fox Feature Syndicate listing a copyright on a 1944 surrogate-published book. The numbering (as Bouncer 10) and copyright date on this comic are misleading. There are two "Rocket Kelly" stories in this issue, one straight wartime adventure and one science fiction adventure on planet Selura. However, the stories in the other "later" issues of The Bouncer (11-14) are all non-science fiction, and it is only in the final story in The Bouncer (1944 series) #14 Spring 1945 that the strip's change to science-fiction (and relocation to Selura) is announced (in the final panel). Also, Kelly gets rockets attached to his airplane in The Green Mask (1940 series) #10 August 1944 and the story in The Bouncer (1944 series) #11 September 1944 is a direct sequel to this, as are all of the subsequent Rocket Kelly stories in Bouncer. Consequently, this issue should probably NOT be considered Bouncer #10 or a 1944 publication (despite the copyright indicia) as it obviously contains a Rocket Kelly story that was created after Bouncer #14 (Spring 1945). The brand is on the back cover.
