Midwestern boy Frankie finds a .38 caliber automatic pistol and impresses Bonnie so much she takes him back to Kansas City with her to learn from Big Ed and his two sons. Frankie get impatient, kills all 3 of them, and goes on a crime spree with Bonnie. He earns the sobriquet "Gunner".
