Welcome HH.
Sorry about the DVD but there's nothing we can do to stop these types from selling them.
At least you found us before you bought anymore of them!

Check the FAQ section before you think about uploading.  If you have any questions afterwards let us know.

IM from New Zealand, but live in Australia... I dont collect comics as such, but I have been buying old ones for a while. I usually like old horror comics.

There was one I had as a kid that Id really like to read again, The story  was set in a prison, this guy makes a deal with the undertaker, when the next person dies he will sneak into the coffin and get buried with the dead prisoner. Then that night the undertaker will dig him up and release him and get paid...

So the guy waits n waits, excited his plan works, as time goes on he starts to think hes been double crossed.  Then he lights a match  to find the body of the dead prisoner is actually the undertaker...   I would love to read it again, this is what got me buying n looking for old horror comics...hahahaa.

I will look through what I have and if any look like that can be scanned and upped without causing any infringements and stuff...I will share em.

Huhu, hoohoo!

I know that story from your childhood you're looking for.
I talked about it on my German horror website:

http://fifties-horror.de/lesewiese/the-good/my-coffin-is-crowded

And now I'm trying to figure out where I got it from...
Wait for it... Internet connection's shot... there it is:

Enjoy.

Hey man, thanks for that....  The story is close, but thats not the one. From what I read though on your blog its a story re hashed many times.

The prison was really old, drawn in the style of an old castle. The guy buried next to him is the undertaker. It was one of those comics from late 60's early 70's where theres about 6 stories in each issue with differring artists. No colour panels either, all black n white.  Its weird cause its one of those stories that really freaked me out as a kid reading it. My dad used to love those comics, and hed give them to my brother n I after he read them.

I really appreciate you taking the time to message, thank sooo much man. I have bookmarked ya blog, looks very cool.

Given the time frame you mention it sounds like the story probably appeared in one of Myron Fass's Eerie Publications.  Fass wasn't shy about "borrowing" stories from 1950s horror comics and having them redrawn for his B/W magazines.
He published titles like Weird, Terror Tales, Witches Tales, Horror Tales, Tales of Voodoo, Tales from the Tomb and others

Here's a site that has a cover gallery of some of Fass's horror mags as well as info on them.

That is a very good suspicion, Jose!
My first thought exactly.
But I checked on the very helpful Eerie Pub index (listing all reprints)

http://www.enjolrasworld.com/Miscellaneous/Keith%20Smith/Eerie%20Publications%20Index.htm

and it's not there!
Furthermore, Eerie Pubs did not rework any stories from Atlas/Marvel.

So we learn two things: These stories get rehashed even more than we ever dreamt of.
Second it must be some Warren rehash (EERIE/ CREEPY / VAMPIRELLA).
Skywald perhaps??

Can't find it, we have to consult 60s/70s experts.

Thanks for that link T!
I still fondly recall the chaos created when someone brought some Fass issues to my grade 3 class!
We all thought they were cool but the teacher was much less impressed and confiscated them.  From then on I wanted to see more but never did until finding them online many a year later.  ;)

I remember the first Fass mag I ever picked up to look at as a kid had this story (drawn by Dick Ayers) where a guy was having his head chopped off and it was flying through the air like it was going to come out of the panel.  Yeccch!

It was really quite a shock to me as I had only seen the Comics Code approved comics of the Silver age up until then.

In fact it creeped me out so much I had bad dreams about it and wouldn't look at one of those Fass mags for years afterward.

Eventually I got inured to the gore and such as movies, comics, television, etc... got gorier in general over the years so it now I can look 'em over with no problem.

I've led a sheltered life and never had to see Fass magazines.
I just know them from Mykal's enjoyable blog
http://www.bloodypulptales.com/

(I live in Germany and Eerie Pubs were never published there - snobs that we are)

That blog gives you an idea of the blood and guts gore they did T.
For a grade 3 kid it was shocking and fascinating.  We knew it was forbidden stuff, much more violent than the stuff we were used to seeing.  I never saw an issue on sale anywhere but that was before I started buying comics regularly.
