French Foreign Legion in Comics
« on: October 23, 2014, 07:01:54 AM »
I have found Beau Geste and Captain Gallant so far.  I was wondering if anyone knew of other comics that feature them or even have strong guest appearances.

Thanks

Hi CDR,
The best place for information on publishers, titles, artists, characters, etc is the Grand Comics Database or GCD.
http://www.comics.org/

You can search for these terms and many others, just click the down arrow to the right of the Search field to see all the options.  I'd suggest searching by character or story title for these.

An ish of an EC war comic, either TWO-FISTED TALES or FRONTLINE COMBAT, featured "En Crapaudine!", a Foreign Legion story.  But we don't carry them here.

Two French Foreign Legion stories from horror books spring to my mind:

http://aces-of-ace.de/stories/the-bedeviled-battaillon

I posted these on the internet - have a look.

On the prose side of things Altus Press is reprinting Theodore Roscoe's "Old Thibaut Corday of the French Foreign Legion" stories.

The link below has links to all four volumes. (BTW, I have no connection to Altus Press, but I do drool over some of their reprinted material.)

There was a long-running Foreign Legion series in Fiction House's Jungle Comics, "Captain Terry Thunder." At different times it was played both straight and for laughs. If you don't mind non-US comics, a series "Jim Stern of the French Foreign Legion" appeared in Australia's Captain Atom Comics (not the U.S. Captain). An issue is available over on ComicBookPlus. Thun'da, King of the Congo helped (and fought) the Legion in ME's Cave Girl #13. In Quality's Hit Comics #1, "Neon the Unknown" starts out as a Legionnaire who gets super-powers, but that is forgotten in the next issue when he moves to Europe and then to the USA. I hope some of these are of interest to you.
