Femforce
« on: January 11, 2011, 03:55:23 PM »
Hey gang here is a chance for some good reading and some big help. As most of you know Diamond changed their minimums awhile back. Femforce is one of the longest running indys. I think it is a book that most of you would enjoy. It has a flip book called Gargantarama that is absolutely great art. The pencillers are good and Jeff Austin's inking is Fantastic. The writer of Rowena is a GAC member even. Yes it costs ten bucks but it is 84 pages. I would hate to seem Diamond squeeze another comic out of business. I do not think that you would be disappointed if you decide to give this great book a try. So if you can find it in your budget how about calling your LCS or going to Comixology and have them pull Femforce you will be glad you did.

I used to read Femforce back in the late 80s early 90s. There is a GAC character featured there named Ms. Victory, and the Blue Bulleteer is a dead ringer for the Phantom Lady. I wasn't able to keep up with them around the turn of the century but I'll be glad to return to this series.

Thanks Charlie. They are only a few away from making their quota so every extra will help.

It's a shame that the only way to help out AC also necessarily supports as rotten a company as Diamond that put them (and others) in the situation in the first place.

People can buy the book directly from AC Comics here.

And it's not quite fair to blame everything on Diamond when it was Marvel's purchase of Heroes World that got the ball rolling as far as wiping-out every other distributor is concerned.  Diamond just happened to luck-out by being the "last distributor standing" when all was said & done, and without any competition, there's nothing pushing the company to be better than what they are.

Buying from AC would have been the best for them a few years ago. Now they need the Diamond orders or basically Femforce dies.

I only blame Diamond for their business practices.  If you're not a favorite ("Big Five") client, you get no exposure, but they demand you make thousands of dollars for them anyway.  Companies are lucky to get a third of retail for that privilege, and may not get paid for months, if Diamond decides to work slow on the paperwork.

I don't blame them for being in a position to arbitrarily crush any book or company they feel like, but I do blame them for coming precariously close to overtly doing it.

Femforce was a favourite of mine but I gave it up after about #100, not because it was 100 but because I was ill and lost the taste for lots of stuff. The Vault of Heroes story was a masterstroke as far as I was concerned, getting to see all those (or versions of) great old characters. I will now do my best to try and order it from a comic shop - it's a bit to expensive to get it direct from the States.  Re. Diamond. It's the same here in the U. K. - there is no choice.  Years ago at a London convention I listened to Geppi as he announced that he was taking over Titan (a British distributor) and he as good as said that his upcoming monopoly would be a good thing for comic shops and fans.  Panned out well for some, hasn't it?

Well for Geppi anyway. One of my favorite characters in Femforce was Mod. One of my favorite oddball SA characters was MF Captain Marvel. Since Captain Marvel is not an available name the folks at AC called him Mod. Done in a fairly humorous manner I liked their take on him it was fun seeing his parts carried around in a basket.
