Speaking of Centaur...
« on: March 29, 2014, 10:48:46 PM »
Centaur being part of the current small publisher spotlight right now, I've been poking around on the next looking at Centaur postings.
Here's some of the most interesting things I've found.  Anyone have others to include please share a link in a reply.

---

BIP covers them in some detail in this older entry here - http://www.bipcomics.com/showcase/logos/index.php?data=centaur
GCD does the same here - http://www.comics.org/publisher/58/
DCM member Paul Tumey's Cole's Comics talks about the early day of Jack Cole at the publisher here - http://colescomics.blogspot.ca/2010/07/jack-cole-front-and-centaur-early-works.html
AC Comics covers it in their intro to their own Centaur Spotlight book here - http://www.accomics.com/accentral/golden-age-greatsspotlight-special-volume-13/

Our own bchat was working on a company profile back in 2010 and made a fun post on them on CB+  - http://comicbookplus.com/forum/index.php/topic,1718.msg53319.html#msg53319
We haven't heard form bchat in a while.  I hope he's going to see the new books that will be going up this spotlight.  His blog entry is here -

This link claims to show the most valuable Centaurs by year.  Not a single book is listed under $1000!  http://www.hoknescomics.com/centaureveryyear.htm

If found this very cool Mindmeister graphic on the company history created by DCM member Tim Stroup at this link and wanted to share it - http://www.mindmeister.com/123768009/centaur-publications-comics-mar-1938-dec-1940

That's enough for now.  Happy reading,

Centaur's, recently, have been the fastest appreciating publisher in golden age comics.  I've tried for months to buy a single one (that I found desirable) off of various auction sites.  Many issues go for 4x book value easily and in one case I saw a CGC 4.0 book go for 10x book value in a Heritage auction with heated bidding at the end.  I've yet to see a Centaur that has any sort of appeal go for book value over the past year.  Sellers at the few comic shows I go to all say the same thing when I ask if they have any Centaurs (I'm trying to find that one vendor who has been living under a rock): they can't keep any in stock.  The few I do see are CGC graded and slabbed in high condition going for over $1000 each.

Ouch, thanks goodness we've gotten several scanned already.  It doesn't bode well for filling all the holes though.
Thanks for the info K.
