Jack Davis AV Club Interview
« on: December 14, 2011, 10:11:26 PM »
There's an interesting little "AV Club" interview with the great Jack Davis in connection with a recent retrospective/bio book release that can be found here.

Now, I know that "Foul Play" was a somewhat questionable story to put out, but I really don't think it had a direct influence on the "ruining of the American youth" (whatever that means).  Although I can understand Davis' distancing of himself from the work... after all, what it did have a direct influence on at the time was his address.  I recall reading somewhere that he actually had moved a few times due to the controversy surrounding it.

He seems also to regret most of his other EC horror work... honestly, I wouldn't... I don't see much reason to do so.

Thank DL.
I've heard that Ingels was the same way until close to the end.

What I also find interesting and somewhat confusing Yoc is his comments concerning MAD.  The mag certainly isn't what it use to be, but just when did he begin to feel that it didn't reflect his values... when Kurtzman left?  Or was it after Gaines passed away?  Or perhaps more recently... as in the last five or ten years?

From thumbing through the mag at the supermarket in recent years, I would agree... it certainly doesn't seem the same... it's definitely more a part of DC/Warner in feel and appeal then apart from it (as when Gaines was around).  But Davis isn't very specific on this IMO.
