Thanks Cooper but the file is a cbz renamed to a cbr.  It doesn't work in Preview this way.
Could you please recreate the file as a cbz or zip and reupload?

Yoc, I've taken care of it now and it is now available for downloading for everyone.

Just uploaded: Famous Funnies #55 incomplete (Eastern)
February 1939; 64 of 68 pages; scanner undetermined.
No Buck Rogers (pages 17-20)

Nice scans of an interesting anthology book. I always find it interesting to see which newspaper series were selected to be reprinted and try to imagine the politics behind the choices (I assume cost per page is a major consideration as well as what an editor thought would be a draw on a major draw on a cover). I didn't expect to see any pages featuring Okey Doakes in a 1939 comic, because I can remember reading his daily strip as late as 1958 or 1959 but almost never meet anyone who remembers the character and his cast. I'm glad you made this available.

I also find it interesting just how different the selection of strips is from just a few years later.

Yep, I renamed the file to a zip and it opened right up. I'll be on the lookout for misnamed extensions from now on.

Thanks Geo for fixing that.

Here's a scan from 2003. It makes me wonder what the oldest scan on DCM actually is.

Just uploaded: Coo Coo Comics #35 (Better/Nedor/Standard/Pines Publications)
September 1947; 52 pages; c2c; scanned by MacBuddha.

That's an interesting question Cooper.
Some of the older names I heard about that were already gone by the time I started collecting scans in 2000 were Bill Nolan, Marble River, Old Beard, Full Beard, FordPrefect and QuietRiot.  But I couldn't tell you what years they were active.  I'm betting Eric (SRCA1941) might know older being around a few years before I came along.

All familiar names to me, and probably among the oldest scanners who would be represented here. I started collecting scans around 1999. Scans of PD books didn't seem to be as common in the early days. Some DC, Quality and Fawcett were about the only things that I ever noticed on ABPC, but then again, my newsgroup access and following was spotty. Most of the really early scans I took were from Yahoo Clubs. Most of those were typically very low res., and I doubt any are here.

I used to keep track of scanners when I downloaded a book. Some other names I have (or remember), from ABPC, on my earliest CDs of comics (which I started burning around 2002 I think) are bumblebeeman(sp?), Mark Stratton, Scan Man, Brain Death, Billy Batson, CigarMan43, Old Wayne, Punkrat, Roy Raymond, misterjoel, Laszlo Jamf, teto7totoro, Mac Raygirl, Sgt. Mike, Doc Quantum, Hary Peters, Bob Hughes, King Faraday, ae660, Pmack, and phabox. That covers through around 2005, when I started downloading from GAC, and didn't feel the need to keep records of scanners anymore.

bumblebeeman (if I’m remembering the name correctly), and CigarMan were ones that I know I remember from the really early days. I think Brain Death and Punkrat were around pretty early too. Most of my earliest downloads have long been lost to hard drive crashes, but I don’t think I was keeping good records back then either. Marble River was the one I followed most closely, because he was posting scans I could use in All-Amazing Comics, and my other books (which is what I started keeping records of scanners for). Most others were posting DCs, Dells, or other things I couldn’t share, or thought I couldn’t share. As I said, it seems like it took a long time for the public domain material to start being posted in any great quantity.

teto7totoro is my oldest and closet online friend who introduced me to all the great scanners out there.
I recall searching for anything GA and being thrilled to find a GA Capt. America reprint and going months before seeing another scan.  Today they are showing up almost daily on DCM.
