Is DCM and Comic Book Plus the same?
« on: January 05, 2013, 05:01:14 AM »
Hi guys, hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year celebration (or what ever you celebrate at this time)...Now I am going to confuse the heck out of the admins....

I was just going through some downloaded books and editing them (adding dates, amt of pages etc) for my folders and in a google search (as some dont have dates pub'ed) I clicked on Comic Book Plus-the old GAC and wanted to know-if I started downloading from DCM abt Dec/2010 to now, would I have downloaded the same books carried at C+ or does that site have more that I should check out?

Except for abt 32G more and the new daily books on this site I have most of the ones I am interested in reading in folders. (On a new 2T external drive..lol) I did have a problem when I 1st started my downloading that I wasnt all that computer savey (still learning everyday) but I converted those downloaded books at the time via Calibre to pdf but in B+W, (but only for the first 4-500 or so) and am now going back on DCM and redownloading and converting into colour as I edit.

I guess what I am getting at is does C+ have more books than DCM that I dont have or is DCM complete of all available on C+ and its only a person's perogitive which site they use? OR Do I have to go check out that site for straglers to my cyber collection?
Tks for reading this long ramblings of a comic addict.
Cheers Netasha

Separate but similar sites.

So, each site has some things the other doesn't.

Basically same beginnings but different owners/files/etc

History in brief.

In the beginning there was a site called GoldenAgeComics.co.uk (GAC) which was created by Serj, Zog and Aussie500 which was a legal spin off project from the pirate site Z-Cult FM. Site was aimed at free digital comics which were in public domain.

Many years had passed and Serj was looking to retire from online world of comics so handed the leadership over to a guy with a big server and lots of plans.

Due to these plans not becoming anything and the mistreatment of staff on GAC (bans etc) under the new leadership the core staff decided to leave and a splinter group was created known as Digital Comic Museum, ie this place.

Over next year or so GAC suffers few problems such as hardware failure and rouge developers and loses their files etc so DCM steps in and hands over their entire collection of comics as a gesture to the community.

After few more months GAC is then sold to a new owner who renames and redevelops site as Comic Book Plus.

Now Digital Comic Museum and Comic Book plus both coexist and mirror similar files for the community but are only connected by share of members and files. Leadership of both sites are different but both have worked together over the year etc.

Hi N,
The new owner Mark is fantastic.  He is very devoted to the site unlike the previous one.

As for what is different CB+ has become very active in sharing of foreign comics, some fanzines, pulps and pennydreadfuls, a SilverAge section and the odd Big Little Book.  So yes they do share some things we can't or wont.

It's worth your time to check what is new there if you are interested in these non-US or post 1959 items.

Um ... blimey Yoc!!!!! ... What can I say? Obsessed rather than devoted, might be a better word. Thank you VERY much!

But, the one thing that you failed to mention is CB+ has the best looking admins of ANY forum on the net :)

Ah, a reminder of the much missed City of Heroes...

In one of the new zones introduced in their 'Going Rogue' expansion, they had a badge you could get outside a tailor location.  'Going Rouge'.

Tks E1 for the replies. I will have to check out CB+ just to see if any missing from my DCM collections are over there.
Cheers Net.
