Auto-Cover-Thumbnail feature acting up
« on: July 16, 2011, 12:25:29 PM »
It seems that the system is not creating thumbnails of new books correctly right now.  At least once in the past I fixed a similar problem by deleting and reuploading the book that seemed to be jamming the system, so I tried again with the last couple books I uploaded.  It does not seem to have worked this time.

And even as I typed that, it seems to be working again, at least partly.  At this point I've got not a clue.

lol, as I say to those that can't download - 'give it a couple days and maybe it sorts itself.'

Staunton had a 'thumb.db' file in his upload which also buggered the AutoCoverThumbnail feature as well.

Now many of the new files aren't getting auto cover thumbs.  I've checked a few and they seem just fine so I suspect the code for the feature is needing a look at.
Nobody panic if they don't see a thumbnail appear, thanks.

I saw a thumbnail was taking a visible time to load in.  I deleted the file and all the others popped in instantly.  So now to figure what to do with that book.

It's a one page Buster Brown Sunday strip.  That's 6MB for one page.

And here's my fix:  I took the download of the file, added a smaller "preview" version of the page so it's now two pages with the first one being a sane size, and reuploaded that where the original file- not the updated version- was.

So file is still there for people to get, the thumbnails on the new books are working, and I'm calling it good for tonight unless somebody else has a though.

Interesting!
I had noticed that some of the others that had failed were very large first scans as well.
Thanks for your investigative work there Eric.

Now I need to fix the recent Captain Flight 5 upload, which will be harder because rangerhouse put in several screenshots.  I wish I knew a faster way to do this.

We can take very large cover scans just fine.  But we can't really deal with INSANE cover scans.

Do we have a size where it starts to act up on this Eric? We could then post up about it for the scanners we have here at least.

Not sure, exactly.  The problem ones I've seen have all been over 4000 across, though.

Hmmm, I just approved a new book, it's front cover was 1280x1867, 1 meg and no front cover preview, rar file type. I'm thinking maybe the size of the file has something to do with it too, that was why I was asking. By the way Captain Flight #5 is the last one with a front cover preview, all those added after that don't have a preview either.

It looks like the Capt Flight 5 cover is clogging the works.

I'm uploading a corrected file as I type, Yoc.  This time I just included a small cover as the first file, so the large cover is still available.

Rangerhouse, I apologize for losing your thumbnails in the process, as well as your download count.  I DID replace the 10 of 10 vote the book got, though. :)

Thanks Eric.
RH, could you please include a smaller first cover as well as your large cover as file 2?
We'd appreciate it.
