That has got to be the most lurid coloring job of the 50s - lots of purple and green.

I have the impression it's a skilled colorist working on a very low budget or super-rush deadline. The artists must have been disappointed. The color is so cheap, so rushed. Yes, "lurid" is the perfect word for it. But still it's a thing of beauty, another jewel in this huge treasure chest. I think the cheapness of comics, the artists and colorists generally being rather rushed, is part of what makes the medium fascinating. I always wonder if the individuals involved would have preferred to spend more time on each page, or if the factory pace was matter-of-fact to them.
