Nice Smilin' Jack comic from the 1940s written and drawn by Zack Mosely.  I could never understand why he draws his women with what appear to be broad shoulders and powerful muscles, though I suspect he did it for one of two reasons: One, he wanted to make them the equals of his male characters, or two, he wanted to make them appear more lifelike.  Either way, it's a damn good story with damn good art.

DCM member 'tnarrud' tells us: I was again reading SMILIN JACK #8 and realized that when her face was revealed on the final page, she appeared to be a caricature of Irene Bordoni, the great Broadway actress from Corsica.
