My father once told me about a drink called "Twenty-One Skiddoo," whose name is derived from the underworld slang mentioned in this comic.

The scheme used by the burglars in the "Free Tickets" story has now become an urban legend, with the addition of the detail that the couple's car is stolen and then returned with the tickets in the glove compartment.

The name of the singer, Lilli Maureen, is a reference to the German song Lilli Marlene.  Could it be that the man who wrote the story "The Shiner" was actually Kurt Swan?
