Title: A question about AC comics Fawcett and Quality reprints
Post by: happyhuman on April 21, 2014, 03:01:09 PM
Does anyone maybe knows if AC Comics reprinted Fawcett Captain Marvel or Quality's Plastic Man comics? and if they didn't, maybe why?

I know they reprinted Minute-Man, Bulletman and Commando Yank but it seems they didn't reprinted any Captain Marvel or Plastic Man comics, is it because the characters are in use by DC Comics? if so, that strange as DC uses a lot of the Quality characters (like The Ray, Dollman and Phantom Lady - and in the case of Phantom Lady, AC just changed the characters name as to not violate DC's trademark) or is it because AC cant get the original plates or a good scan of the comics to produce a B&W version?

I enjoy AC's Men Of Mystery TPB series and I was hoping to buy one that had Captain Marvel or Plastic Man

thanks in advance

Adam

My guess is AC doesn't want to go up against DC's muscle. Keep in mind when AC started doing reprints there were actually both Captain Marvel AND Plastic Man cartoons on television. Since then both characters have been members of the Justice League. Plastic Man was, in fact, a member during one of the JLA's best runs.

So, while AC thought they could get away with doing a Phantom Lady book with a paint job on the main character I doubt they wanted to risk a lawsuit by reprinting Captain Marvel or Plastic Man. They might actually win a lawsuit but it would cost them so much money it wouldn't be much of a victory.

That being said, the early Cap and Plas stories ARE available from DC in archive format.

About Captain Marvel, are you familiar with the character Mighty Man from Big Bang Comics? it's basically Captain Marvel with color twinks, the art for the character looks like it was copied from the Captain Marvel comics

Thank you for the links

I have a full set of every Big Bang Comics ... and I mean every one including the non-Image issues and back ups from Calibur, along with the recent trade digests.

I'm nuts that way.
