I want to put in a plug for Bob McCarty, an artist nobody talks much about. He drew "You'll wish You Never Met Me" in Young Romance 49. He has his quirks, like the wide mouths and the big, big eyes, but his drawings have real life to them. His posing is good, he puts effort into backgrounds, and he has a knack for characterization (especially on run-down and sleazy types like the bad brother and the gambler in this story). One thing always stands out to me--his hands. They;re well-drawn, but always big and cartoony. Even the women's hands. It's as if there were an inner Jack Davis trying to get out. McCarty seems to have faded out of the scene in the late 50s or early 60s. Anybody know about his later career?

Hmm, Jack Davis comparison, that's interesting. As I said when I posted it, I see similarities to Ditko. (Mainly the expressive eyes.) I like what he did on that story and I'd like to see more of McCarty.

I like the guy as well.
Spotted him with JVJ in all those horror books from Fawcett.
To me he's the poor guy's George Evans.
The worked alongside at Fawcett.
I like to think McCarty was emulating Evans.
