Hi all!
I am a moderator on another website which has a pretty detailed wiki. Recently I have been trying to clean up the pages to do with Biblical figures as they are generally somewhat biased one way or another. I was trying to look up the first comic book appearance of Jesus Christ and I think it is in Picture Stories from the Bible New Testament from 1944. I took a look around here for any information on this series but couldn't find any. Does anyone know about this?

Personally I don't know but good place to start would possible be: Grand Comic Database

Oh thanks, I was hoping to actually read them though :)

EC is a publisher we can't share Razz.
It looks like those have been reprinted a couple times though. You might try Amazon.

If you use the chronological listing (and skip the first 20 or so listings):
http://www.comics.org/character/name/jesus/sort/chrono/
You get a list, but not a lot in the early 40s, it quickly goes to the 1950s. There was probably a lot of trepidation in portraying a religious figure in the comics.

Hi, Razzatazz. Don't know if this is of any help as it's a bit later than you want but you might want a look at a Portuguese comic, here:-

Razzatazz: ComicVine.com [ http://www.comicvine.com/jesus-christ/29-56085/ ] agrees with you about PICTURE STORIES FROM THE BIBLE -- but I tend to doubt that, even as a first USA publication. I recall seeing a ca.1940 Mexican comic featuring Jesus, but I don't recall the title, sorry. The the first Christian "cartoon books" probably date back to at least the 1400's, as cheap bound woodblock prints -- the comix of that era. Maybe you should check with the Vatican Library.

Ok thanks for the feedback everyone. I don't check this website very often, but I do appreciate the help.
