Title: EXCITING COMICS
Post by: glammazon on April 11, 2012, 04:09:56 PM
You might remember that I have been searching for Exciting Comics #39 for quite some time.  Well, when I posted a request for help at the Tintinologist.com website, a colleague there told me that the copyright for that series had been renewed in 1967.  That was last month, and I have been pondering what do do about it ever since then.  Finally, I hit upon the idea of e-mailing the American copyright office and asking them to see to it that the renewal was nullified rather than have you take them down from this website.

Hi Glam,
Have you tried using our How to check PD status tutorial?

I have just checked the copyright status on EXCITING COMICS, and it appears that only the first three issues of the first series were renewed, followed by the first two issues of the second series, and the first issue of EXCITING WESTERN.  It would appear, therefore, that issue thirty-nine is in the public domain. ;D

Hey Glam,
could you post the direct links to where you found these?  We're starting a database of them and it'd save us some time.

Let's hope this means Exciting Comics #39 will appear on DCM soon. I've got to have a complete run of every Black Terror and Tim adventure in my lifetime.  :)

At the Catalog of Copyright Entries.  Just click on the entry for 1967 and then click on "Renewals." ;D

Thanks for helping Glammazon.  :)
I've figured out how you can share a direct link for future reference from there.

I used Search for 'Exciting', found the entry on pg383 and up in the top right is a 3 connected dots 'Brianiac' type symbol.
Click on it and there is a 'Link to this page view:' box where you can copy and paste the following-

The staff will now be talking about this one and what to do with these.

You misspelled "Brainiac."

Crime on the Run #8 does not open with CDisplay. Get 'access violation' error message. Extracting produces a MAOSX folder, & a single jpg file.  The folder contains jpg files, none of which can be opened. The single jpg file (outside the folder) opens to show the cover of the comic.

The Woman in Red Archive vol1 opens with CDisplay, but only shows a blank screen. Files can't be extracted.

I was able to extract the Crime on the Run files using WinRAR. In addition to the 36 regular scans, there were 27 or so thumbnail JPG files (less than 1K each). I am able to view all 36 pages without any problems. If you like, I can repackage and reupload the files (unless someone beats me to it).

Oh, I was foolishly looking for it in the "W"s.  ::)

Generally, I don't think we should have "The" or "A" as the first word in a title.

Yeah, I agree with that rule Roy.
Let me look into it.

Of course, I could have used "search", but I'm not very bright.

Yeah, I agree with that rule Roy.
