Does anyone happen to know of any golden age comic book stories in which comic book characters draw a comic book story? We're putting together a new article for our Comic Book Attic Blog.
So far, we have:
Star Spangled 28 (Newsboy Legion)
The 2 Jack Cole Inki stories
Pen Miller by Nordling
Scribbly by Mayer
Coo Coo 51
Anything else out there anyone know of?
Thanks!

Target Comics vol.2 no.4 (Target and the Targeteers)
The Spirit - I seem to recall Eisner showing up doing the strip within the strip on several occasions, but the one that sticks out to me is "Self Portrait" from May 3, 1942.
Superman #19 - "Case of the Funny Paper Crimes" might come close to what you're looking for too.
Superman #25 - "King of the Comic Books!" would be more like what you are looking for.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. If I think of any more I'll let you know.

He wasn't a costumed character, but National Comics' "Pen Miller" series was about a cartoonist/artist who was also an amateur detective. The series lasted for a good five or six years.

Seems like I've seen that concept used in some pre-code horror comics usually along the lines of where the comic artist usually ends up creating some creature or event that gets him in the end.

Bill Everett used the theme in an Atlas story.
Venus #17 (December, 1951), “The Cartoonist’s Calamity”
You can read scans of it on the Comic Book Attic blog here -
