welll . . . .it looks like you guys dont wanna upload the John Carter comics of the funnies
I really wish you would . .. .
because the official John Carter of mars websites are currently collecting the comics and posting them for all too see on the official websites

http://www.erbzine.com/mag37/3721.html

http://www.erbzine.com/mag37/3726.html
PEOPLE, they got fourteen issues left to collect . . .. give them a hand bros!
also it seems there is a mix up over what comic appeared in issue 56, and whether a comic appeared in 57 or not

Behind the scenes (if I remember correctly), a major reason we're keeping those pages out is that none of us on staff (with access to uploads) is sufficiently conversant with Burroughs to figure out which stories are adapted in which issues.
Playing things safe, we lean towards the interpretation of copyright that the holder has control of derivative works with a claim on the underlying rights. So, for properties like John Carter and the Green Hornet, we tend to avoid the issue until we can be more precise. In one of the few specific cases we had, the pages were identified as adapting a much later Carter story still protected by copyright, for example.
So, if you or someone else can identify which stories are adapted in which issues, we can double-check those copyrights and see about getting the pages back into the books. (And, as hinted, the same goes for the Green Hornet stories--if someone can distinguish original stories from those adapted from a previous source, we'd be much more willing to host the material shown to have no claims on it.)
-
oh, that
none of the issues adapt stories adapted beyond "the chessmen of mars"
which is the fifth book
the first five books of the John Carter of mars series are public domain
there are aspects adapted from, princess of mars, gods of mars, warlord of mars (all public domain)
maybe a bit of thuvia maid of mars but I have seen none of that
nothing is adapted from anything beyond the fifth book
-
Better to err to the side of caution, Yoc. Especially since the ERBzine is making available that which the Burroughs heirs are making available what they think should be available.
-
well I helped gather these comics for them to post, they dont have physical or digital copies of the comics
I am just trying to encourage people to put these comics up because its communities like these that are providing most of the scans
if any of you have any of the missing issues of the funnies, or even just the John Carter pages from the funnies I will forward them to them so they can finish their archive
-
If someone wants to help out Ralok please send him a private message. Hit the word balloon under his post count on the left below his name.
Thanks.

Friends please
I need issues 32, 37, 38, 40, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 49, 50, 52, 55, and 56 (maybe 57)
PLEASE I BEG OF YOU FRIENDS
all I need is the John carter pages of these issues of Dells "the Funnies"
-
Hi R,
As far as I know none of those issues has been scanned.
-Yoc
-
thats are real shame :/
I was hoping for at least issue 32
-
I may have something on issue #32, I get back to you if I do.
Sorry no luck, it's not scanned yet, same with the others on your list.
Geo
-
bummer . . . its a real shame
-
All,
Thanks so much for the links. I have been reading these, and love the contrast between the first take (in comic form) on this material in contrast with the current Dynamite series. I wish the darn PD thing was more straight forward...these books would be great to collect.
-
I really feel it is imperative that these comics be collected . . . .
before they are lost forever
I need to know of other communities . . .and websites . . . .other places that gather comics from the old days
I am going to scour the bowels of the internet until I find them all
failing that . . . I will find a collector, and as him for the scans
-
Good luck Ralok. Just ask OtherErik how much a quest can cost. He is out to get the obscure Peter Wheat
-
Hi Ralok,
DCM and GAC aren't the Only sites but we are the best stocked. I certainly wish you luck in your quest.
If you're lucky you'll meet a generous collector willing to risk scanning his comics for the sake of posterity which is what it's all about.
-Yoc
-
And have been having mixed luck on that; the last few Peter Wheat batches went for extremely high prices. I probably could have gotten at least one or two issues if they had been broken up into issues, but the seller posted them in large sets and I couldn't get them...
I'll keep trying.
-
And we do greatly appreciate your trying.
I always look forward to seeing new Peter Wheats.
Thanks
Joe

Thank you, Ralok. We can't host that material here, but it's wonderful to see a legitimate home has been found for some rare material.
-
I suggest, that the funnies comics that you cannot upload, you simply include a white page with the link to these comics, where the john carter comics would have been in the original comics
also if anybody has any of these john carter comics, or knows of other obscure john carter comics please tell me :D

BONUS, for bonus nostalgic awesomeness check out the sunday strips, also by John Coleman Burroughs!
http://www.erbzine.com/mag28/2840.html
for extra fun read these first, it ends with a cliffhanger! At which point the art and story directly overlap with "The Funnies" thus you can move into the funnies comics with an alternate beginning, and resolving the cliffhanger from the sunday strips
so for the best experience, read the sunday strips first, then continue the story in issue 37 of the funnies (here: http://www.erbzine.com/mag37/3721.html )

I know this is a sort of old thread, but just have to post and say "WOW!"
