Title: pmackscans uploads
Post by: Pmackscans on June 27, 2011, 08:27:03 PM
Colossus Comics 001F (Sun.Publications.1940) (c2c) (Narfstar-Pmack).cbz

I uploaded it to Small Publishers, I hope that's where it goes!

Oh wow...
Now this is one of those rare books people drool for much like Green Giant Comics (which a bird tells me fiche exist for as well so cross your fingers!)
This one is so rare and expensive you'd need to win a lottery to even find a copy to buy.  So here is likely your only chance to see it as a fiche scan.
All thanks to Narfstar for letting Pmack scan and share it.
And a hearty welcome to the site to Pmack who many of you out there should know from all the quality scans he's been making for years now.  This scan and post were his first on DCM.  We sure hope it's the first of many for him here.
:D

Definitely in small publishers; I don't know if the publisher ever put out another book!

Thanks for this one, a definite oddity.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. I'd love to upload more here, but my main focus is Timely-Atlas, and that's verboten ;). I do occasionally scan other things, and anything I scan that's PD I will happily contribute here. Lord knows I've grabbed enough stuff from the GAC archives!

This was one of those books... That I always saw the cover and said "I WONDER WHAT'S INSIDE"

Thanks for sharing....

Excellent work. It's nice to think that something rare is being preserved in some form for public access.

For fiche scans the ones to the issue of Colossus Comics are excellent.

I just uploaded 2 books:

Hyper Mystery Comics 002 (1940) (c2c) (JVJnarfstar).cbz - filled missing IFC, IBC, BC from Narfstar-supplied fiche

Yankee Comics 001 (Dynamic.Publications.1941) (c2c) (RichardB-Pmack) - filled 30 missing pages with Narfstar-supplied fiche.

I neglected to credit Narfstar in either book, so if the mods could add his credit to the filename, it'd be much appreciated.

Little Eva 012 (IW Enterprises.1963) (c2c) (Pmack)

Edit: ugh, I just realized this is past the DCM cutoff point... I'll understand if you have to trash it.

Let me get a consult, it may be allowed if it reprints a pre-cutoff book.  Since IW used the original plates...

Gee, I'm not sure how to handle this.  Technically it's too late but IW was bogus anyways without copyrights, etc...

Hate to be the bearer of bad new, but the pages on Superworld Comics 002 are out of order. Scans look good though.

hmm, looked at the filenames and it may not be out of order for all readers but it's out of order in the preview.

Thanks a lot for these!

(Although the coveted Green Giant hasn't gone live as of this post.)

I'd say Cooperway 4 is right to report sequencing problems on  the Superworld pages.  Looking inside the book, some pages are numbered with 2 digits and others with 3.  The problem is glaringly obvious when using the preview button from the comic's page.  It first shows up on the fifth page because page 04 is followed by page 042 inside the cbz file.

Cheers,

DHFH

Pmack

Believe me, I enjoyed both issues. I was amazed to see good scans of the Green Giant book since I knew there were either some poor fiche scans of the book or good fiche scans of a book reputed to have not been released because of a poor printing quality. The last thing I expected was good scans of a book that certainly could have been distributed.

Thank you for posting both books.

Superworld Comics 002F (Komos.Publications.1940) (c2c) (Narfstar-Pmack)

After the issue we already had posted, I was highly disappointed at the total lack of genocide in this issue...

More seriously, both books are a lot of fun, and as has been mentioned, very long-awaited, and great scans, especially considering the source media.

I can make out the text pretty well; here's what I think it says:

This is the view of how Mars appears from one of its moons, Deimos. Mars has two moons, the other being Phobos. The Moon Phobos is only 3700 miles from the surface of Mars; Moon Deimos is furthur distant - that is, about 12,500 miles.
Note variegated colors on the surface of Mars. These colors, incidentally, are not imaginary but are exactly as seen through a high-powered telescope. The so-called canals, which run in all directions and criss-cross the face of the mysterious planet, are not imaginary. The canals have been seen and even photographed many times from our own Earth, notwithstanding the fact that Mars never comes nearer than 35 million miles to us.
We do not know for sure what these canals are. The late Professor Percival Lowell thought he had proof that the "canals" are, really, not waterways themselves, but the result of vegetation growing near the waterways. Mars is a tremendously old world and has cooled down far more than Earth. Originally all planets were molten. As Mars is a much smaller world than the Earth (intermediate in size between Earth and Moon), it cooled down many millions of years ago. Today the planet has very little air, and not much water. In order to get the water over the surface of the planet, the Martian engineers ages ago began to tap the two Polar snow caps (one cap is visible at the top of this picture); then, by some means unknown  to us, the water is made to run uphill, and so irrigates the entire planet. How the Martians accomplished such a super-engineering job is one of the great mysteries which cannot be solved until an expedition from the Earth shall actually land on Mars. There is, however, no doubt whatsoever that Mars has vegetation, which is shown in the green patches illustrated here. The other spots are probably deserts. The faint pink band around the edge of Mars is its very thin atmosphere. The green star in the upper right corner is the other moon, Phobos. The planet Jupiter and bright stars are also seen in the background.
The map of the Martian canals shown here is from photographs by the courtesy of Flagstaff Observatory, Flagstaff, Arizona.

Corrections are welcome.

Hi Pmack,

Would you have time to convert some of my fiche to scans?  I have Jungle 5,7,13,14. Africa 1 (Me) All Top 18 and Jo Jo 9.

These fiches were originally purchased from P J Iacovone of New Jersey in the 80's.  They are in strips mounted in a plastic holder

Thanks
