This is a 68 page black and white British reprint of an American original plus extra stories. The issue numbers do not match.
-
This is one of a very few coloured originals in good condition in my collection - most of them are black and white British reprints of various publications.
-
I don't think we'd better be hosting this one as is. Half of the book is Atlas (i.e., Marvel) reprints. I'll upload a de-Marvelized version ASAP.
-
Thanks very much jimpy!
It went live as soon as I saw it.
:)
-
Thanks to DM removing the non-Prize stories the book is now back on the site.
My thanks to jimpy for the original upload.
Those Brit books can be very unusual for their contents mixing different publishers together in a variety of combinations.
As long as the majority of the book is non-PD jimpy, we can remove the unsafe Atlas, etc content for you.
Thanks again for the uploads,
-Yoc

Straight Arrow#25 uploaded
-
And now approved for download. Thanks for the book!
-
Sorry about the incomplete first version - must have got 2 pages stuck together, so I only counted 34 rather than 36. I have renumbered all the files to suit.
-
Thank you Jim for reup'ing the corrected file. I've now deleted the other file and left a note to others that downloaded the first one that this one is now c2c. Don't feel to bad we've all had our "bad days", it happens to even the best of us.
Thanks again for the fix.
Geo
-
Thanks jimpy.
Perhaps you need you own 'jimpy uploads' topic?
We're loving them!
:)
-
Thanks J,
you're doing great work.
:)
-
crime files 005 uploaded
-
It's approved and ready for download.
A neat little oddity, with Toth art; and it's a SOTI book for those who care about that.
-
Hopefully, the stories in the latter half of the book are PD. You will probably wish to re-number it to fit in with US series.
-
If they aren't, give it to me and I'll re-edit it.
-
Don't worry DM, the staff will check it for jimpy as soon as we can.
But for any future issues you might want to arrange something with jimpy in private.
-Yoc
-
Hi jimpy,
Using the story search on GCD I've learned the following about your latest upload:
(Luckily we need both sections!)
First half - Black Magic #v2#9 [15]
(August 1952) Prize
Second half - Eerie #7
(June-July 1952) Avon
Final true fact story from
Airboy Comics v8#9 [92]
(October 1951) Hillman
For sharing we will separate the two halves into their proper sections and provide links to each other for those that want the c2c book.
I'll take care of this when I get home and add the missing cover from Eerie #7. Thanks for uploading jimpy!
-Yoc
-
Separated into the two books and added to their sections.
Also inserted a small version of the US Eerie 7 cover.
Thanks jimpy!
:)
-
This single story British reprint from Ibis#6 seems an improved scan on the one hosted at present.
-
Now up.
Thanks jimpy!
-
I have only uploaded the front cover and a provenance insert for a pre-scan checking. This is a 28 page black and white UK reprint 1952-ish. Let me know if you would like the full version.
-
Hi Jimpy,
I don't see it there atm.
It helps me greatly if you include the story titles as well to search on GCD to figure out what the original US comic the reprint came from.
-
Hi, Paris After Dark, The Rat Loves To Bump-Mort Lawrence, Weapon of Da Vinci, Murder Rock. Hope this helps.
-
Thanks Jimpy!
As I understand it, the scan was originally released as c2c, then split. Now I am combining both parts myself to have the c2c. Crazy! :-/
I would really appreciate seeing c2c versions of future scans, assuming of course that they are PD. Perhaps to Americans the British editions are only worthy of being chopped up and used as placeholders, but to a Brit the UK editions have a value of their own.
Slinky :-*
-
I think Slinky makes a very good point here. Is there any reason why we can't have this original (c2c) version in the UK comics section as well as using the B/W scans as "placeholders" under the American comic titles (until scans from the original American comics become available to take their place)?
Best
Joe
-
Black Magic V1#2 52pages c2v Dec1950
-
Well, being mostly an American based site I thought at the time the easiest thing to do was split the book and add notes to the original c2c books. It's not hard to combine them later.
That and it brings to attention that the partial scans exist for those books and might encourage a c2c scan of the missing book.
From now on I'll leave a c2c version in the British section as well as split them.
-
Hi Jimpy,
I couldn't find these story titles on GCD (I'm guessing you failed to as well.)
Could I get you to just scan and upload just the first pages of these story pages?
I might be able to confirm the at least are not Atlas stories and know they are Ok for the site.
Sorry for the delay on this.
-Yoc
-
Now up!
Thanks very much jimpy. :)
btw, your file names don't have to be both "cbz.zip". Either will work.
Ie black_magic_002.cbz or
black_magic_002.zip
They both work with CDisplay, the most commonly used comic viewer app for PCs.
-
From now on I'll leave a c2c version in the British section as well as split them.
TYVM! :-*
-
Wow! Thanks, Jimpy. What a great book!
-
I think that's the way to approach the British reprint titles, Yoc. I'm a Wyomingite, which is almost like being an American, but I'd like to see the British books as they were printed, whenever possible.
-
Thanks for uploading the pages jimpy.
While I can't nail down exactly which issue I can tell you it's a reprint from
Hillman's Real Clue Crime Stories sometime after v3.
You can download any later issue and see the 'Crime File number' and similar layout is used in them like in your book.
Feel free to scan and upload the book.
:)
-
Hi,
I have now uploaded the whole comic. I designated it 'Real Clue' but you might prefer it as UK.
Jimpy
-
Thanks jimpy!
I'll cross post it in both sections. It's more work but people seem to want it that way.
I'm still trying to nail down the issue number and the source for the wonderful L.B. Cole cover.
-
Thanks Jimpy and Yoc! :-*
-
Black Magic#13 British edition. Black and white reprint of US#unknown, Eerie#9, 1 Heap story. Some of the centre scans not perfect - the binding makes it difficult to read let alone scan. I was originally only going to upload the first half of the book, to avoid duplication in different sections, but as there is now a demand for British c2c versions, and as all the stories are PD, I scanned the whole comic and designated it UK.
-
Yoc
I appreciate your going to the extra trouble of working these British comics into additional files when appropriate. Not only do the Brit fans here get the nostalgia rush of seeing them in their original form but all comic historians can see how these American comics were repackaged for overseas audiences.
Best
Joe
-
Thanks jimpy. I'll see if I can figure out which US Black Magic issue this comes from before I add it to the site.
:)
-
Thanks Jimpy! :D
-
Not mentioned in Denis Gifford's Complete Catalogue of British Comics or in The Comic Book Price Guide for Great Britain, so presumably quite a rarity!
[EDIT] Listed for sale as #1 so possibly the only issue of this title.
-
Astounding Comic nn is now up with the Original cover scan I added from Crime-Fighting Detective #18, find it in the UK section. Sorry but I couldn't find the original 'Real Clue Crime Stories' that these stories came out of at this time.
Thanks Jimpy for sharing.
Geo
-
I glad to see this finally. I'm really enjoying seeing American material as it was repackaged for another audience. I've also enjoyed seeing material I probably wouldn't have seen otherwise.
-
Hi,
I see for some reason this upload cannot be previewed, and no thumbnail - any reason for this?
It was done in the same way as my previous uploads.
Jimpy
-
There is, but I have no idea how to adjust for it. Maybe Yoc does.
The file is cross-referenced two places, both under Prize and under UK comics. Hitting download on the Prize listing takes you to the UK Comics page, where you can actually download the file and the thumbnail works fine. But the listing on the new books goes to the Prize listing, not the UK Comics page, so when the software looks for the book to generate a thumbnail it finds a link, not a book, so can't create the thumbnail.
So that's why it's happening. I just don't know how to correct for it, short of deleting the file and re-uploading it in two places. Which I will do if need be, but I'll let Yoc try to fix it first.
-
Black Magic British#15. Black and white reprint. US#unknown. 68 pages c2c. Usual second half mishmash for you to contend with.
-
Cover: Black Magic v3 n6 (24)
The Changeling: Black Magic v3 n6 (24)
His Own Business: Black Magic v3 n6 (24)
The Lady is a Ghost: Black Magic v3 n6 (24)
Stars of Fate: Black Magic v3 n6 (24)
The Shadow: Black Magic v3 n6 (24)
Bring Back the Dream: Black Magic v3 n6 (24)
As Real as Life: Black Magic v3 n6 (24)
Race With Death: Black Magic v3 n5 (23)
Peg O'Neil's Ghost: Black Magic v3 n5 (23)
The Ghostly Guardians: Blue Bolt Weird Tales 116
The Poisonous Heart: Startling Terror Tales 11
Weird Mr. and Mrs. Murder: Blue Bolt Weird Tales 116
Death Danger and Deceit: Blue Bolt Weird Tales 116 (Probably from an even earlier book, but this version from the 116)
Dead Man's Mistake: Blue Bolt Weird Tales 116
So far, so good. But we'll need to drop the last 3 stories, since they're all from Crime SuspenStories 22.
-
We will take care of this and add it to the site asap jimpy.
But it might have to wait until Monday or Tuesday.
-
Eric is correct. The cross-post version will not preview or show a thumbnail because it is just a link to the UK version. It saves us having the file uploaded twice while still showing it exists in more than one section on the site. Many of the DCM Archive editions are the same thing. Nothing needs to be fixed in this case.
-
Ok, the PD version of this is now up under UK and Prize folders.
Thanks to jimpy for scanning!
:)
-
The Man from Planet X. UK black and white reprint ( I suppose the originals were in colour) of a Fawcett Movie Comic. 28 pages c2c. Dated 1952. Who is the artist?
-
Now up!
GCD has some guesses for artist listed here jimpy-
http://www.comics.org/issue/245427/
-
Captain Midnight#100 UK. This is a black and white reprint of US#50, 1947, which I don't think you have. 32pages c2c. Shame about my aeroplane shaped scrap-booking from centre pages.
-
Looks a lot like Kurt Schaffenberger to me,
Best
Joe
-
I haven't seen it yet jimpy, did you already upload it?
Geo
-
Geo - just realised - waltzed off and got sidetracked without pressing confirm. Will redo.
Jimpy
-
Redone.
-
Redone.
Yoc's working on it.
Geo
-
I'm familiar with the movie "The Man from Planet X," which was directed by Edgar G. Ulmar. Despite the film's tiny budget, Ulmar created a nice little atmospheric science fiction piece which is highly entertaining. I had no idea there was a comic book adaption, so I'll be taking a look at this once I get my flooded basement squared away (record rains this month).
Thanks for posting the book.
-
Now up, thanks J!
:)
-
"The Lady is a Ghost" is quite a little genre bender, it is often I see a hard-boiled ghost story. Took me awhile to get around to reading the entire issues, but I enjoyed it.
-
When Worlds Collide - a 1952 UK black and white reprint of a Fawcett Movie Comic. 32pages C2C.
-
Oops! Didn't realise you already had it, or that there are two similar categories. I thought that it was odd UK titling. Still, the comparison is interesting.
Jimpy.
-
Hi J,
Exactly what I thought. A nice companion piece with the US one.
:)
Thanks for the upload!
-
Thanks for the upload jimpy, interesting to see what our cousins get to see.
By the way, I'm also the person that put the US version of this book up.
Geo
-
I rather like having both versions. I find the British reprints interesting.
-
The Atlas ones sometimes have included pre-edited artwork and the odd other change.
So yes, they can be very interesting!
-
I noticed that your existing FC for this issue looked a bit tatty so I uploaded this. I do have the full scan, which you are welcome to, but the UK latter half is non-PD 'Astonishing'.
-
Hi jimpy,
So the front half, have you checked to see if it IS from BM8?
You can check for the contents here on GCD = http://www.comics.org/issue/9303/
If you do have the front half of 8 please do scan and upload.
:)
-
Yoc,
The first half matches the cover - US 014 = UK 008. Do you still want the B&W version?
Jimpy
-
I would love to see the B&W version; it's always interesting to compare.
-
Hi jimpy,
Sure, if you'd like to scan the Black Magic pages feel free. There's no rule a book can't have more than one version on DCM.
-Yoc
-
Black Magic UK 008 full version uploaded as requested. I sent the whole file for convenience, so get editing. A pity, because the non-PD half is pretty good.
Jimpy
-
Thanks again jimpy. I'll get it up asap.
:)
-
I've merged jimpy's two topics on this into one.
--------
An interesting book!
Front half is Black Magic 14 (Jul'52-Prize
Back half is AstonishING #16 (Aug'52)-Atlas
and it all ends with a single western story from
Airboy Comics v7#11 [82] [Dec'50]-Hillman
Thanks jimpy!
:)
-
FYI - in 1952 it would be AstonishING, Yok.

Frogman Comics UK #4 68 page black and white reprint, which seems harmless enough. I am not sure if this is of use to you, but I was performing a pre-sale scan anyway, and as I am always surprised by the interest shown in my UK reprints, I decided to upload it.
Jimpy.
-
Thanks jimpy.
this one Contains:
Frogman Comics #4 (Sept-Oct 1952) Hillman, 1952 Series
Airboy Comics v8#9 [92] (Oct 1951) Hillman, 1945 Series
(only the first three stories from the original)
Now up!
-
Super Thriller Comic #12. An odd little UK black and white concoction from c.1952. Another pre-sale scan - I have to be realistic, I can't keep my collection for ever, but I do feel compelled to record it! The cover is better than the contents.
-
It's now up. Thanks jimpy.
Note this is not an American reprint.
-
Yoc,
Now that you have researched it, I am sure that I have seen the cover story at least in another form, but I cannot recall the details after 60 years.
Jimpy.
-
Perhaps jimpy.
All I know is from the GCD listing which I expect you've already seen yourself -
http://www.comics.org/series/43605/
It does say 'Reprinted the British Super Thriller Comic (World Distributors, 1948 series).'
Perhaps you saw the earlier originals?
-
thanks a lot for this jimpy
It is on GCD
http://www.comics.org/series/43700/covers/
-
I have just come across this - it is a UK comic from a St John original, in red and green instead of my usual B&W! I suppose 3D glasses would still be effective? Anyway, do you want it?
Jimpy.
-
I'll send you a Private Message on this one jimpy.
-
Another 68 page UK B&W reprint of US#12 and Eerie#4. The appropriate Eerie cover seems to have found it's way into my file. The rather unpleasant 2 page Human Insects text story may be Atlas?
-
I'll have to sort this in a few days jimpy.
Likely next Monday or Tuesday. If the text story is Atlas it will have to be removed.
Thanks for the upload. :)
-
I've just approved this upload as-is gang.
It will show up a ways back on the Latest Uploads list. Sorry, it can't be helped.
Thanks again for the upload jimpy!
:D
-
Yoc, Now uploaded.
Jimpy
-
Tnx!
-
This is the FC only of UK #56, an improvement on the existing fiche of US #15. In Britain, the MF and Whiz Comics at this time were A4 size - just larger pictures. My #56 is 28 out of 32 pages - the Mary Marvel story was never included, and the centrefold is missing - last 4 pages of the CM Jr story.
-
Thank you jimpy, it's on hold till Yoc takes a look see.
Geo
-
Thanks Jimpy.
I notice the file name you uploaded is -
"Marvel_Family_056_UK_FC_cbz..zip"
It works but could you please use either '.cbz' or '.zip' and no extra periods.
I'll pull the cover and add it to the existing file when I get home in a few days.
Thanks for scanning and sharing it!
-Yoc
-
Captain Midnight UK #102. This is a B&W 28 page C2C reprint from 1952 of US #53 by L Miller. I have recently gone over to RAR - only because I wanted to open some of your files, and it has taken over -so I hope it is OK and will allow previews.
Jimpy
-
It works just fine J.
btw, Winrar will allow you to also make Zip files as well as rar. Under Archive Format.
I'm renaming your file to 'Captain Midnight 053 (UK reprint)' so it shows in the proper order for the Fawcett section.
-
Er.... Three CM stories actually, Yoc
Jimpy.
-
Right, fixed!
-
Marvel Family UK #89, US #70 B&W 28 pages c2c. I uploaded this because your current US version looks a bit the worse for wear. I have several more similar which I will upload if you wish.
Jimpy.
-
Thanks Jimpy, it's now up.
And please do continue the Fawcett books, especially if they reprint a USA book not on the site.
:)
-
Captain Marvel Jr. UK #81 US #53. Black and white. 28 pages c2c. I noticed that the current issue is incomplete, so this should fill in the gaps.
Jimpy.
-
Thanks very much Jimpy!
I've added a link to your upload inside the existing US #53 pointing to your reprint as well.
-
Hi Gang,
I've updated three more UK scans from jimpy for you all.
Captain Marvel UK 075 (US#135)
Marvel Family UK 067 (US#58)
Captain Marvel Jr. UK 071 (US#104)
My thanks to jimpy for sharing these!
-Yoc
-
Black Magic UK #12 from 1954. 68 page B&W reprint of US #17 plus missing Eerie #8. It has taken me forever to find this issue, for the Eerie stories, so I couldn't upload it quick enough.
Jimpy
-
Thanks very much Jimpy!
-
Whiz Comic UK #62, 32 page B&W Miller reprint of US #126. I will upload these, Yoc, now I know you are keen - just have to wait for a touch of insomnia to utilise free upload time - my ISP knows how to charge if you exceed your allowance.
Jimpy.
-
Now up!
Thanks very much Jimpy and yes please do continue. I have the same kind of limits from my own ISP as well as terrible upload speeds.
:(
-
Jungle Comics UK #30 B&W 28pages c2c. A mixture of stories from various publications. I could not match the cover to a US original. Yoc - I would have uploaded #27 but you got in first.
Jimpy
-
Thanks Jimpy!
I traced some of the comic but the Kaänga story eludes me despite looking very familiar.
Cover is from Kaänga 14
'Suicide Smith' is from RANGERS 68
'The Ghost Gallery' story is from GHOST COMICS 01 (which is a reprint as well from unknown Jumbo issue.)
Anyone know the mystery sources?
-
The Ghost Gallery is from Jumbo 72
-
Thanks BB.
Any idea on the Kaänga? I'm sure I've seen it somewhere before.
-
Thanks BB.
Any idea on the Kaänga? I'm sure I've seen it somewhere before.
I look through our selection of Kaanga storied books (Jungle Comics and Kaanga) and it might be one we are missing (#154, Maurice Whitman art was only in issues #124-163 according to the "Guide") as the logo used started around #80 something or so Yoc. I don't think I missed looking at any issues we have here. Was the stories ran in any other books besides those two?
Geo
-
I seem to remember reading (in one of Bill Black's AC Comics pubs, IIRC) that some Fiction House stories only appeared overseas-possibly stories still in inventory when the titles were cancelled in the U.S.
Throwing out another possibility
Joe
-
Actually, he was pencilling the feature almost exclusively from 114 to 163. We have every issue except 154, which GCD has titled as 'The Fire Wizard'. The story in the UK Jungle #30 is about the bad guys using a device to magnify the sun's rays and create fire.
Call me Sherlock Builderboy, but, I say its a reprint from Jungle #154
-
Well, we should soon know, as I have Jungle 154 on the way for scanning and sharing.
-
...should have checked my own library! The Kaanga story is indeed from Jungle #154. Forgot that I had bought this book a while back and was planning to scan it after JVJ stuff.
-
Thanks for the info BBoy.
-
Airboy UK #2, B&W reprint 68 pages c2c uploaded as requested, Yoc. A mixture of Hillman stories.
Jimpy
-
Thanks very much Jimpy!
Please keep them coming if you are continuing with more UK reprints.
-Yoc
-
Found the contents for these -
The first 46pgs are from Airboy Comics v08 #08 [#91][Sep 1951]. Only the ads are missing.
The rest is most of 'Frogman Comics #3 [July August 1952].

Whiz Comic UK #81. 32 page B&W Miller reprint from 1953 of US #97. I tried for the first time to upload 2 thumbs - the FC and some photos of the CM Jigsaw of the time. I don't know if this was ever marketed in the US.
Jimpy

Now up, thanks again jimpy!

This is a one-off 28 page B&W UK partial reprint of US Planet Comics #17. The remainder was reprinted as a similar UK Planet Comics. Subsequent issues, by a different publisher, were 68 page Planet Comics and matched a US issue.

Planet Comics UK #2. A B&W&Red reprint of US #23 from 1953. 68 pages c2c. The centrefold is from the DCM fiche - the binding of my copy made these pages impossible to scan.

For now I'm holding it in the Suspect folder.

Marvel Family UK #68. Partial Miller reprint of US #61 plus a Lance O'Casey story. B&W. 28 pages c2c. Not the best copy, so some restoration to the margins.

Yoc,
I tried, but obviously failed, to reset this during upload when I realised that I had called it a Whiz Comic - can you please amend?
Thanks, Jimpy

No problem jimpy, I got your back covered, it's been changed now to read with the correct name.

Golden Arrow #2 1953. 68 pages c2c. 1 page damaged. Jimpy edit of Rangerhouse scan.
-
Thanks jimpy.
This is a HUGE one gang - 184.66 MB!

Could be because the first file is an 87.7 MB tif file.
-
I was wondering about that 001 tif file, but I didn't like to delete it - I thought Yoc might do it.
Jimpy

I include a 600 dpi tiff file of most covers, typically edit (movie, yoc, or loftyty) convert to jpg and make smaller, I just want best quality I can get for many of these classic covers
