This is a little game I like to play. It goes by various names but basically we pick a character and then pick who would be good in the movie featuring that character. Who knows, I did this on one forum several years back with the A-Team and the movie actually happened.
This time we are re-making the doc Savage movie. your budget is unlimited:

(http://www.realmofdarkness.net/pranks/img/sb/jackblack-board-8.gif)Jack Black as Monk

So, what do you think? Close or not?
Who would you cast as Doc and his five assistants?

Your choices are a bit far apart in relative ages :)
I once realized that the cast of the Magnificent Seven would have made a pretty good Doc crew visibly:
Doc - Brad Dexter
Monk - Charles Bronson
Ham - Robert Vaughn
Renny - James Coburn
Long Tom - Steve McQueen
Johnny - Horst Buckhholz
John Sunlight - Yul Brynner
Sargasso Ogre - Eli Wallach
Modern actors:
Doc - Chris Hemsworth (if he proves to be a decent actor)
Monk - Joshua Jackson (will take a little make-up and camera angles)
Ham - Matthew Bomer
Renny - Nathan Fillion
Long Tom - Milo Ventimiglia
Johnny - Zachary Quinto
Johnny - Simon Baker
Sargasso 0gre - Nick Chinlund (originally a choice for Monk, but now getting a little long in the tooth)

I just wanna know who's playing Pat!

So far, the rather campy version from the 70s is looking better and better. Mark has a good point about Pat Savage; if you could find someone who just basically matches the physical description it would be a pity not to use her.
Perhaps an animated version featuring the voice actors who were used in the NPR Doc Savage serial would work better. At least they sounded about right, but after twenty years they might not be around or sound the same.
I know it is old fashioned to think about it, but I think a good script that is plot driven and treats the source material with a little respect would be a requirement.

I have long believed the movie has more to do with making the actor than the other way around. That makes me so sick of Charlie Sheen and his crying about how much he made CBS. Well how much has he made from CBS? Enough to suck a ton of coke up his nose. I am so out of tough with most of todays actors that I am hard pressed to pick a cast. I would go with an unknown statuesque beauty for Pat. If not my first choice would be the girl from Chuck.
