A hearty thank-you and mighty 'Welcome to the Scanner's Ranks' to
Ami_GFX for uploading Jungle Comics #153.
The first of we hope many more.
Congrats!
:)
-
I'll second that, as I love Fiction House jungle books. Thanks, Ami!
-
You're welcome, all. Scan number 2, Jungle Comics 156 is now uploaded. I tweaked the Jpeg image quality in the scanner software on this one and maybe set it to far which resulted in a much smaller file but not quite as radiant a scan. It still looks good and this comic is in much worse shape than the first one so I'm happy with the results.
-
Thank you Ami for your upload, jungle books are alway welcome here.
Take care, look forward to your next upload.

Many thanks Ami!
Interestingly you bought your book from bhcomics who also scanned it but incomplete.
freddyfly uploaded the incomplete bhc version and I merged just your ads with his to also make it c2c.
I made note that it's the same BOOK but different scans in the merged version.
Both are on the site.
I hope that's Ok with both of you.
32mb isn't overly huge while 7mb I think is on the small size. 20-30mb for a 36pg book would be the sweet spot in my humble opinion.
As the scanner how you do your scans in the end is completely up to you. We are thankful for anything.

Glad to see these. We're still exploring the Jungle!

I've bought a few comics from BHcomics and I just happened to check out what he had on eBay last Saturday and noticed the Jungle Comics and checked for them and noticed they weren't on DCM and got both for minimum bid--$20 with shipping for both. I scanned Jungle 153 at full Jpeg quality which gave me an original file of around 2mb per page. I reduced it by half with Image Ready and scanned the Jungle 156 with the Jpeg quality set to half which I thought would give me the same result but instead it reduced the files to around 10% of the size of the full quality jpegs. I'm going to go with full quality jpegs from the scanner from now on which gave much better quality and use software to process the image to a reasonable size after it's scanned.
-
And we appreciate the efforts Ami
-
Sounds like a plan Ami. Under 10mb for a 36pg book isn't necessary and sacrifices detail.
bhc and Len have generously shared many scans with DCM. bhc though doesn't do the non-story pages as you might have noticed.
Thanks again for helping fill two more holes in the FH collection.

Jungle Comics 160 is now uploaded. Another ebay find and another gap is filled in the Jungle collection. :D :D
-
Thanks Ami, and it's now been released into the wild for everyones enjoyment.

Many thanks! We'll finish off this title soon! (gotta find a #8)

It's been a while and I haven't had much time to buy and scan comics the last year but here is a new scan: Crime Does Not Pay 44. I've noticed there are a lot of big gaps and incomplete issues in the Lev Gleason section and there are a lot of the missing issues for sale on eBay for reasonable prices. I've got Crime Does Not Pay 74 and Boy Illustories 53 coming in the mail this week. Won them together in one auction.
BTW, I am buying these comics solely for the purpose of scanning them and then reselling them. If anyone wants the originals, I would be happy to sell them to DCM members for what I paid for them.
-
Thanks Ami from someone who has bough hundreds of comics just to scan. My problem is I never get around to selling them. Really need to get a batch together to sell
-
I don't have much extra space to store comics and the only comics I've been buying for my own collection are 60s and 70s Charltons that fill gaps that I didn't fill when I was a teenager. I usually buy lots and runs of these but most aren't PD.
The idea is to get the money back so I can buy more unscanned PD comics to scan. The problem is getting the time to scan them. :)
-
Well if you need any help scanning my scanner is always available.. no edits I'm behind on..
Thanks RH
-
That's a very nice offer RH.
Ami, RH is easily the fastest scanner out there now with his Machine. He's have your books back to you in no time if you ever wanted someone else to do your scans/edits.

Thanks for the offer, RH. At the rate I buy comics to scan, I'm not likely to need it. I actually enjoy scanning the comics when I do it. I do a lot of document scanning for the two organizations I'm working for/with right now and it's refreshing to scan comics when I get a chance.
I'm just beginning to get into the editing and managed to crop the pages and merge the centerfold with this one as well as size reduction of the raw scans. Nothing really fancy like color enhancement so far.
I just listed the comic on eBay and discovered that all pictures are free on golden age comics listings so I put some of the scanned pages on the listing which should help sell it and get the money back into my PD comic buying fund.
-
Good for you Ami. I enjoy the editing a lot more than scanning myself.
If you ever do need any extra help with say a tricky merge or say you have a paper scan with holes and fiche exist and you want them merged let me know. Just email the paper and fiche page and I can help you out.
GL on the edits
:)

Crime Does Not Pay 74 and Boy Comics 53 came in the mail yesterday and are on top of my scanner ready to be scanned and I just won Crime does not pay 73 for a minumum bid. More Lev Gleason scans coming soon.
-
Congrats Ami!
-
Crime Does Not Pay 74 scanned and edited and now uploading. A paper version of Boy Comics 53 will be coming soon. :D
-
Thank you Ami, will be on the lookout for Boy Comics #53 when ready.

Boy Comics 53 is now uploading. The scan came out very nice. A break in the violence before I go to the post office to pick up Crime Does Not Pay 73. The art isn't as spectacular in these Lev Gleason comics as that of Quality and Fiction House but I'm really enjoying the quality of Charles Biro's story telling.
-
Very nice. It's now up gang, go get it!
Thanks again Ami.
:)
-
Crime Does not Pay 73 uploading now.
-
Now up, thanks very much A!
:)

I sold Crime Does not Pay 44 and the money was enough for #77 which I just won on Ebay. There are a few more issues on my watch list. I'll post as soon as I win or buy more. CDNP #77 will be scanned as soon as it arrives. I'm getting faster and better at both the scanning and editing with each comic.
-
Thanks Ami, we appreciate all you've done for us here.
GL on the watch list. :)

Hi,
Have you tried
http:// www. newkadia. com /?Crime_Does_Not_Pay_Comic-Books=5242
they have 23 books ranging from $12 to upper $30's. My experience with them has been good.
movielover
(if this post breaks rules, then mods just delete it)
-
No, I think it's Ok ML.
It's not a direct ad, just telling your personal experience.
-
You're also a real person, not a "drive-by."
-
Crime Does not Pay 77 now uploading. This one took a while due to the computer crashing in the middle of the scan and the automatic page numbering getting messed up. I finally edited it and rescanned a couple of missing pages.
I checked out Movielovers link. Apreciated but nothing I want just now. I still have several issues on my watch list from 1948-1949 and a couple of earlier ones. Missed the last auction because I came home too late. I will get some more of these as soon as I have time to pay attention to eBay again.
-
Thanks Ami for your latest upload.
Be on the outlook for those others
coming soon.
