Thank you all for this great site!
I am mostly interested in the early fiftys Crime/Horror/War/SF comics pre-code.
Anyone know of a link that has a PDF list of all the companies in business during this time period? Company/titles/issue numbers ?
I would like it to include companies not in public domain - like EC, etc....
thank you !

This link is to the most comprehensive index of the Golden Age comics I have found. I think it is really useful as a reference and actually use it quite often.

Thanks Charlie.
The Keltner Index is a wonderful document everyone on DCM should have a copy of.
Note it is a PDF and you will need an app to read it.

thank you for the list. It is a little to superhero leaning for my tastes !

Many of the early entries in the GCD came from Keltner's. So those issues may be missing several features. The order may not always be correct either.

Wonderful is an understatement! It is by far the single most important document on the Golden Age of Comics.

I can't direct you to any single site that might help you but you can check out sites like Atlastales.com (which has a list of titles under its "titles" section) for tons of info on 1940s and 1950s Marvel comics or go to the Grand Comicbook Database (GCD) and do a search by publisher.
That should give you a start.
You might also want to check out Alter Ego #97 which has an article by Lawrence Watt-Evans in which he does a quick run down company by company of 1950s precode horror comics.
Best

Hunter,
I think the single best place to learn about horror comics, films, etc is this blog -
(click here) the horrors of it all blog (http://thehorrorsofitall.blogspot.com/)
Karswell does an amazing job of showcasing the best of the genre. From there you will learn which titles to look for on DCM.
You can't find a better blog for horror comics.
There is also the non-pc named "Comic Book Bondage Cover of the Day" which has a LOT of 50s horror comic covers there to explore. Check the Archives link where title and year published are listed.
Here is the link - http://bcotd.com/index.html (http://bcotd.com/index.html)
(Note this might not be good to look at from work or in mixed company)
There is also a semi list on Wikipedia -
