These JVJ books we still need. I am creating this thread for them all to be moved here for easy access. Please use this thread to simplify remove the issues after we get them.

NOTE - to add the yellow highlights on Jim's original lists in the Introduction section Narf and I found we were going over the 20,000 character limit for a single post. So we've removed titles we already had the same issues as Jim's offerings just to create room enough in the thread.

I was about to try my hand at scanning a copy of Eh! #6 that I own (Charlton Aug 54), since DCM only seems to have a scan of Eh! #1. But this listing seems to not list Eh! #6 as needed or as in the JVJ collection. So, what gives? I don't want to go through the effort of scanning the issue only to discover that someone else is already scanning it or planning to.

Post by: John C on June 26, 2010, 02:22:24 PM: Assuming that the lists are kept up to date (no easy feat, given how quickly the scanners pull them together--no matter how much they apologize for "delays"), these are books that Jim owns, has permitted access to it should one of the aforementioned scanners want to scan and post it, and for which no scan is known.

So, if you have anything that's on the list and you'd like to scan, given the (intentionally) small number of scanners working through Jim's books, there's a low probability of conflict (though it's certainly worth asking), and you'll be helping save someone time and postage down the line.

In fact, it might be best to take them off the list when they arrive at the scanner. Or at least marked as "in progress" or something. Might avoid duplication of effort or expending postage funds to get books to a scanner that someone else is already in the process of scanning. I just hate to waste the group's money and don't particularly want to subject my books to unneeded travel stress.

It should be done on both sites, really. As Stan Lee once asked, "Who's in Charge Here?"

Hope we can find a way o keep updated.

Bob nothing has changed, most of those 4C's are not public domain, so while we thank you for the offer at the moment we are unable to take you up on it, since we still do not have anyone with the spare time and expertise to go through the entire list and check each individual comic, and then make up sections for the few remaining PD ones.

Yoc, I'm preparing to request my next batch of books from Jim, but it looks like those documents haven't been updated in a while. At a minimum, all of the books that I requested last time & have scanned and posted, are still listed.

If I were a moderator, I would happily update the list when I post my scans :) (I could even update it now if I had the permissions to do so)

Otherwise, could you let me know when the list is again current so I'll know what is safe to request?

People write off milehigh because of their mile high regular prices. At 60% off you can make some great finds. Most I paid was $12 for Golden West Love 1. Most books under $5. So if people keep their eyes open they can be golden age collectors without a lot of money. For those who care about condition, I will say that over half of the fair condition books were in at least good condition. If anyone is interested in non-superhero and non-horror/scifi books you can come out very good by looking at Milehigh. BTW: What site can Terry O'Neill's stuff be seen. I still need a Choice/Great to get a comic from that publisher.

But when Jim says I gotta go play I sure know what he means. I will say though, as fun as it was to go through my box of GA books, it is not the same feeling as the SA. Over all the most fun for me is going through the SA books that thrilled me as a kid. I have most of those books in digital now. It ain't the same. If I think about getting rid of my collection it is not those books. I could sell most of my GA without much regret, but not my SA gems. Into the 80's the books could go. However as time passes those books become a little more sentimental to me. So maybe I just will never end up getting rid of anything ::)

He has some books I may have to save up for. X-Venture 1 and Great Comics would be nice someday but since they are scanned I am not in a big hurry. The book I will probably get that I have been wanting is Key Ring with Radior. Unless I missed that as being in your collection Jim. It is $40 and he has some a few others under $10 I may look into.

Box arrived and contents confirmed. There was a bit of a scare as there was a large label on the box "Received in damaged condition" on the box with some large pieces of duct tape holding it together, but all the comics were in a single plastic bag inside apparently unharmed so I guess it was just the box that got it. I'll try to do these soon, but probably won't finish until after the term lets out in May.

Somewhere between Palo Alto and Fantagraphics Books and Jon the Scanner and Palo Alto again, they disappeared. Lack of oversight on my part and issuing unclear instructions from Paris were mighty contributors to the problem. Be that as it may, if anyone knows the whereabouts of my Fights, I'd love to find them.

Ahhmmm... Jim is probably packing RANGERS 7 + 15 for me.
I noticed incidentally (while studying GHOST from Fiction House) that three RANGERS are missing.
Asked Jim about it and he confirmed having these two.
Is it okay if I get them - or is someone else longing to scan them?

See, I have this great big collection of comic books and I have a whole slew of other things that I want to do with my life besides scan them. But, then I'm a crazy kind of guy and I don't mind sharing my stuff with the rest of the world, so I offered the good people at what once was goldenagecomics.com a deal. If they could arrange some scanners and some postage money, I'd send off the comics to the scanners and everyone would benefit. So far it's been working for about four or five years now and both DCM and CB+ post and host the scans folks do of my books. I'm a cheapskate and "Crimes by Women" is one of those silly books that is priced so high (for salacious and certainly not artistic reasons) that I will never buy one. I'm an art guy. Late Fox books are interesting in a low key, third rate sort of way - bad Iger Shop art and the bottom of the freelance market (guys that hadn't heard that Fox might not pay them or that his checks might bounce). Not my cup of tea.

So the list of the JVJ Collection is just that: the comics I have. Occasionally I will add to the collection, but my upper limit on spending for any one comic is $40, so CbW is off the radar for me. Sorry. Hope that 'splains things a bit more clearly.

It is correctly shown on the CSNS, along with some books scattered about that JVJ purchased earlier this year.

One must remember that these originated as my personal "HAVE" lists, Len, and weren't intended for anyone else but me. In sharing them with the old GAC group, I made no effort to sanitize or sync them with GCD. It was all very loose. Please accept the info here in that spirit.

Ps, Rangerhouse has all of the issues in this title that I own. He's probably mentioned it elsewhere, but, if not...

If 400 miles qualifies as "somewhat", then I guess we are neighbors. I'm up near San Francisco, though at the moment I'm 5000 miles away in Paris, France, in my second home which probably couldn't be twisted into any sort of qualification no matter how hard we tried.

I am most definitely a Northern California guy and have been since 1958. I refuse to be dragooned into Southern Cal status. I know you guys love it down there, and do appreciate your stance, but I like our weather better, among other things.

Lived there until the economy crashed and had to head "south" pun intended, to go to work for a "government" agency (county not fed) to keep employed. I am sure Paris is more scenic than either North or South. Maybe I will make it up to the bay area (use to live in Pinole Bay near Richmond as well) as my brother-in-law lives in San Francisco but works in Silicon Valley. We take a drive up that way once or twice a year. We were just up there this year in May doing the road trip thing to Corning, Tahoe, San Francisco, and San Simeon, then back to the OC. Let us know when you are back it would be an honor to meet you. Keep safe and happy.

A search for Black Magic turns up those particular issues were renewed in 1982 by Jack Kirby & Joseph H. Simon (A).
