Since these are meant to be viewed on screens, they should be saved as RGB and not CMYK. The resulting files will be smaller with essentially the same quality.

Thanks lrek.  I passed along your suggestions to Jet and he's since changed his technique for future scans.  We don't anticipate problems in his next scan.
