From the indicia: copyright 1952 by the Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company. Can somebody explain that?

Willie the penguin began as a mascot used in advertising for Kool menthol cigarettes.

As a marketing guy, I've always been intrigued by how they sold cigarettes over the years. Here's a funny approach from the early 1950s, when ciggies could be advertised on television:
