Post by: Support Bot on August 02, 2014, 02:40:07 PM
Comic Name: Pioneer Pointers – Public Service Poster (13.7 MB)
Description: Pioneer Pointers – Public Service Poster. A different type of comic from Harvey.  A 1950s (???) early 1960s school bus safety poster  produced by Harvey Publications  for the Superior Coach Corporation. Printed on slick poster paper approximately 14 inches (36 cm)  X 22 inches (56 cm) featuring a Daniel Boone type character providing safety tips for school bus riders.

The  file contains  two full length scans of the poster, individual scans of the banner and 9 panels of bus safety  tips. The second jpg is the larger scan of the poster.  The artwork looks like Ray Bailey pencils.

This is the same art as the 16-page "Pathfinder Pointers" booklet over in the Harvey section.

Good catch.  The booklet and poster must be part of a school safety program with handouts and teaching aids, the poster being the teachers poster and the booklet the handout to students.  I remember seeing similar public service information “packages” while in school in the 1960s.

It's interesting to note that the wording is the same on the poster and booklet with some variation in the art. The black border on the poster vs the wooden background for each safety point in the booklet. The booklet also has some extra artwork of puzzles and games that would interest kids and get the safety message to them. I wonder if there are other items from the package???
